Darcie's eyes fluttered open. She sat up and pinched the bridge of her nose, her head throbbed terribly. She looked at the digital clocked next to her bed to find it read 3:23 AM. The time matched what she believed the time in her vision was, give or take an hour or two.
She let her hand fall to her side as she thought about the hospital, the smoke rising from the building, and David in the alleyway along with the girl from Peter's Pizza.
None of it made any sense; the way David talked to the girl as if he had known her his whole life, the way he talked about Carol like she was just an object with no meaning, then there was the way he used the word mortal. He said it the same way the Demi-Reapers and Reapers said it, as if they were below him.
That wasn't David, that wasn't her foster father. No, her foster father was kind and cared about others. Her helped the community and less fortunate any way he could, that's what he had been doing Saturday morning when Kali had attacked, that's what he had come home from only to be stabbed in the chest.
She felt tears go down her cheeks at the thought; it wasn't fair that he had been hurt because of her, but the way he talked made her wonder if maybe he had known something bad was going to happen. Maybe he sensed it?
A light knock at the door made her wipe away her tears, "Come in." she croaked.
Era stepped into the room not bothering to close the door behind her. "I had a feeling you were awake..." she began, "I wanted to tell you that Mo...well, he's awake."
Darcie slid out of the bed and onto her feet, "Is he alright?" she asked hastily.
Era smiled, "Yeah, he's fine. A little bruised and in pain." she paused as if to consider what she should and shouldn't share, "He's fine." she repeated.
Darcie smiled. She was glad he was alright; she didn't want anyone dying for her, even if they believed it was their job.
"Can I maybe...talk to him? See that he's alright?" Darcie asked hesitantly.
Era gave a quick laugh, "Yeah, they're watching a movie...I think..."
"What movie?" she asked but Era just shrugged.
Era turned around and headed out the door into the living room, Darcie followed behind. She smiled as she found Thane sitting on the couch arm rest, Alex in one of the chairs, and Mo propped up by several pillows. They were all watching one of the newer Batman movies; it didn't matter to them that it was 3 in the morning, they all looked as awake as someone in the middle of the day. Though Alex looked as if he were possibly about to drift off.
Mo turned his head slightly toward her and smiled, "Hello Darcie Dawn." he sung; he sounded as if he needed a glass of water.
"Hey Mo." she smiled awkwardly not sure what say, "How are you feeling?"
He shrugged, "I've been worse...and better, but all in all, I'm good."
“Good.” she looked towards Era, “Thane said something about Alex and finding out more about these visions or dreams.”
Era sighed, “Yeah.” she looked at Alex who slouched down in the chair while Thane had directed his attention toward them. “Alex?”
Alex looked up at her and bit his lip, “Yeah. Maybe in the morning?”
Darcie shook her head, “Now, please. I need to know.”
She saw Era look toward her, “Darcie, you fell asleep, did you see something?”
Darcie swallowed hard, “No.” she lied. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Thane shift slightly then stand.
“If she’s ready then we better go through with it before it’s too late.” Thane said firmly.
