“I don’t like pain.” Mo winned.

Thane laughed at him, “You’re a complainer.”

Mo rolled his eyes then looked back at the TV to see the movie credits; it had been the only thing that had distracted him from the pain shooting up his side and now that it was over he was miserable.

“Please, if you care...help...me...” Mo closed his eyes and went limp allowing Thane the opportunity to care but after a moment he opened one hazel eye to find Thane flipping one of his twin daggers in his right hand.  “Dude, get a better stress relief than flipping a dagger or knife in your hand.”

Thane clutched his dagger’s hilt, “I’m not stressed.” he said shortly.

“Uh huh.  Do you remember what I said when we left Darcie’s place.”

Thane smiled, “You mean when you wanted to ask me how to be less awkward around mortal girls?  Yeah, I remember.”

“I never said that.” Mo grumbled, “And I’m serious Thane.”

Thane sighed, “I know.” he began to flip his dagger once again, “And I do remember.  You said that it was up to us now.  That we might have to deal with the fact we may never see our parents again and that if we were alone we needed to make sure we stayed together no matter what.  Is that right?”

“Do you remember the rest?” he asked.

Thane nodded, “Yeah.  I remember, but I don’t see how that is relevant.”

Mo looked back at the TV as the last credits went by, “I just think that maybe..maybe we should leave Darcie...”

Thane stopped flipping his dagger, “What?  How could you say that?  She an innocent we dragged into this!  It’s our responsibility to protect her!  To make sure she survives this and goes back to her family!”

“What family?” Mo muttered, “I heard you and Era, her foster parents are dead...Thane, have you ever stopped and considered that maybe we didn’t drag her into this but rather she dragged us?  It’s obvious that Kali, Luc, and Trix want her, only her, and that their parents are destroying everything around us to get to her.  Maybe this is all a freaky coincidence, maybe if we hadn’t met her then our parents wouldn’t have been kidnapped and her foster parents would still be alive.”

Thane crossed his arms while still holding his dagger, “You’re saying this is her fault?  Mo, how could you even think that?  She was torn up when you got hurt and you think that she knew about all of this?  That she was putting us in danger?  I’m not sure about you, but to me she doesn’t seem like that type of person.”

Mo looked down at his lap, “I know, I apologize, but I’m just thinking about us...if our parents are gone Thane, if we can’t get them back, then we’re on our own and that means we’re all we have.  I don’t wanna lose anyone else, Thane, I don’t.”

Thane sighed, “I know, neither do I, but that also means we aren’t leaving anyone behind.  Including Darcie, even if she’s the reason for this mess; truth is Mo, they brought us into this and we aren’t going to let them leave without knowing what a mistake that was.” he smiled.

Mo laughed, “Yeah!  Fight the power!”

“Yeah.” Thane laughed.

Mo smiled, it was odd for him to have a simple moment talking like a semi-normal teen without worrying if a soul was going to rise somewhere around them.  He leaned back into the couch pillow behind his back and sighed.  Though still in pain he felt almost completely relaxed despite the chaos around him; though it was also possible he was so calm because of something Alex had give him when he had first woken up.  Either way, he was happy.
