Beep.
Beep. Beep.
I filtered out the sound of the irritating hospital equipment as I rested my head on John's chest, my hand in his, tears pouring down my face. I should've known. I should've known it would be John to be shot, not me. That would've been to easy if it had been me.
John's mouth was open as tubes were down his oesphagus. Wires were attached to him all over the place, on his torso, limbs, and some on his head. He was in a coma. He was stable, but in a coma. I wasn't doing so well myself. My hair had grown long and my face was unshaven, so I looked much like a caveman, but I was fine compared to John.
"They tried putting me in prison, John, for killing Moriarty. I would do it ten times over. I can't stand seeing you like this, baby, please, wake up. For me. Mycroft has been looking after me on the weekends. You can only imagine how awkward and ghastly it gets when Lestrade's over," I laughed at that, and saw a small smile form on John's lips. He looked so gorgeous and peaceful.
I smiled at him and snuffled, before feeling a hand on my shoulder. I jumped and turned around to see Mycroft and Lestrade standing there, smiling sympathetically. Lestrade was out of school, and everyone knew about their relationship. It was a major shock to people, but all had cleared over, as far as I could tell. I had been imprisoned for the murder of James Moriarty, but all of his snipers had cleared off. I was in a private cell during the week, but Mycroft had fixed it for me that I could leave each weekend. The people were stupid idiots there, and on more than one occasion I had gotten into fights with the imbeciles there. Just wait until I got my hands on Sebastian Moran, the one who undoubtedly shot my boyfriend...
"Come on, Sherlock, it's time to go."
I leaned down and gently kissed John on the head, being careful not to detach any tubes or any other medical equipment. I brushed my hand across his forehead, pushing his growing dark blonde hair off of his forehead. I chuckled as it stood up. "I love you, my little hedgehog."
I sniffled and straightened up, smiling at John once again before turning and following Mycroft and Lestrade out of the hospital room. They led me downstairs, and a sleek black car pulled up before us, and we all got in the back, before we were driven back to Mycroft's house.
Once inside Mycroft's mansion, I was sent straight to the small room in which I was made to stay in on the weekends. I had a reasonably comfortable bed, books on a shelf that went right across the wall, and up to the ceiling. I also had a microscope and some chemicals and plants to test on. Mycroft said if I wanted something to test on he could get me some pedophiles and rapists from prison. I think that was a joke, but I'm really not sure. Each night I was there he would check and make sure I didn't have any drugs on me; I never did. It was all well staying there on the weekends, except for the fact that the room was directly below Mycroft an Lestrade's room. That was the huge downfall that almost made me glad to go back to the bleak, single prison cell. There was always a lot of "OHHHH MYCROFT" and "OH GREG! RIGHT THERE!" which always made me consider leaving.
I stayed in that room, not bothering to answer to Mycroft's calls when dinner was served, and I just lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling. I threw my little blue ball up at the ceiling, and it dropped back down, and I caught it easily in my hand. Sometimes I wished gravity would disappear, so I could float upwards and fly away. But then of course I'd burn up in the atmosphere and die. Sometimes I wanted that. John was in a coma, all because I had an enemy. I groaned loudly before I heard my cellphone ringing. The ringtone was "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles, because John was my sun, and that was his ringtone. I literally fell off the bed and scrambled for my phone. Who was it? Who had John's phone? Was it John? Had he woken up?
"Hello?" I shouted into the phone a bit too excitedly.
"Hello, Sherlock, honey," it was Mrs. Watson, John's mother.
"Mrs. Watson! What's wrong? Is John awake? What's happening?"
She laughed heartily. He was apparently okay. "Everything is fine, Sherlock. John woke up he-"
"I'll be right there!" I said quickly, cutting her off.
I ran out of my room and upstairs to Mycroft and Lestrade, who were cuddling on the couch. "Hospital. Now!" I shouted, throwing on my coat and scarf before racing out the front door as the black car pulled up. I jumped in the back and left, just as Mycroft and Lestrade raced out, watching me as the car raced down to the hospital.
Once at the hospital, I was out of the car before it had even completely stopped. I tripped slightly on my coat- my damn coat- and raced up to John's hospital room. John's parents left the room as they saw me run in, and I had to forcefully compose myself, somehow managing to walk up to his bed, where John sat, propped up on pillows. His hair was a mess and his skin sickly white, but his green eyes were bright and his smile was big. "Hey, Sherlock," he croaked as I moved over to him, wrapping my arms around him gently, kissing his forehead.
"John," I breathed, moving away. I cupped his face in my hands and searched his eyes. "How are you feeling?"
"A bit sore, to be honest, but that's okay. I hear I was out for... two months?"
I nodded and sighed as I looked at him. "Yeah. It's been rough."
"Wh-what happened?"
"I shot and killed Moriarty-" John gasped at that "-But I'm in a private cell in the prison and I go to Mycroft's on the weekends."
John gulped and nodded. "Hey, Sherlock?"
"Yes, my love?"
"Will you kiss me?"
I smiled and leaned in, gently kissing John on the lips. Everything was going to be fine as long as I had John.
