Innocence

Chapter twenty-six

I sank to the floor as my vision became blurry. He didn't want me. Those four words, small, unfeeling, tore me up inside. Tears rolled out of my eyes as I curled up in a ball on the floor and sobbed. Suddenly I jumped to my feet and climbed on my window seal. I took a deep breathe before hurtling myself out the window and somehow managing to grab onto the thick tree limb. Pain shot through my hand as bark wedged itself into my skin and I let go of the branch, falling. I gasped as I hit the ground, the air rushing out of my lungs. I laid on the ground struggling to breathe for awhile before finally slowly getting to my feet. He doesnt want me. Tears came to my eyes again as I took of for the woods. I ran until I couldn't and I sank to the ground.

"Here I am!" I screamed. "come and get me! I don't want to live without him!" I punched the ground and sobbed. Suddenly I heard a low growl behind me. I spun around and squinted at the dark eyes that stared at me in the night. Suddenly a human walked forward into view. She looked about my age, with brown hair to her back. She was tan skinned and had beautiful dark features.

"Who, who are you?" I whispered. The girl stared at me before walking closer, raising an eyebrow.

"I am Shadow." the girl replied.

"I'm Mikeala." I said, slowly standing up, whipping the dirt off my pants.

"I know." Shadow said, smiling slightly.

"Are you, a shape, shifter?" I asked quietly. Shadow nodded her head.

"What do you want with me?" I said, tears forming in my eyes.

"Your boyfriend. That bloodsucker you LOVE." Shadow said, spitting out the last word.

"He isn't my boyfriend." I whispered. "He, he broke up with me. Shadow looked at me curiously.

"At least he didn't kill you."

"He's not that way!" I declared, angrily.

"All blood suckers are that way!" Shadow growled.

"Not Ethan! He is different! I know! I love him!" I yelled.

"You LUST him! You don't love him! Mikeala, how are you so stupid?!?"

"I'm not stu...wait, why do you care? He isn't hurting anyone." I said quietly.

" Go home, Mikeala. And stay away from him." Shadow warned.

"Like I have a choice!" I yelled as I turned away from her and ran, tears streaming down my face.

"I hate you!" I screamed at Ethan, knowing he couldn't hear me.

Ethan's POV

"Get out." Mikeala said, tears running down her face. My heart broke in two. I nodded silently and went to the window. I gave her one last kiss on the forehead before dashing out into the night. I stopped and listened as her sobs rang out in the night. I yelled angrily and ran, wishing I could never stop.
