Chapter Thirty

Ethan and I walked through the woods holding hands. It had been three months since Ethan and I almost lost our life's. My leg was healed and Damon was gone, for good. Shadow had become my best friend and we were always together. As for my family, Ethan came up with a crazy story about how I fell when we went "rock climbing." my parents didn't seem surprised. Apparently I'm accident prone. I smiled up at Ethan as we walked, slightly swinging our hands. I pulled Ethan to a stop and stared him in the eyes.

"I have a question." I stated. Ethan raised his eyebrows. "I want you to change me." I said quietly. Ethan jerked his head at me and stared at me in astonishment.

"No! How could you ask that? No, forget it." he said, letting go of me hand and starting to walk again. I ran to catch up to him and grabbed his arm.

"Ethan, everyday I'm getting older. And you're not. I don't want to grow old while you stay young. Please Ethan. You won't want me when I'm wrinkly." I said, tears filling my eyes.

"I cant." Ethan said, shaking his head in sorrow. "I can't take your humanity."

"I'm nothing without you." I whispered. "Take my soul, take anything. I don't want it without you. I can't live without you." pain filled Ethan's eyes as he wrapped his arms around me.

"I will." he whispered. " But only on one condition." I nodded my head. Ethan looked me in the eyes.

"Mikeala, will you marry me?" Ethan said. Tears filled my eyes as I shook my head.

"Yes, yes!" I cried. Ethan's eyes lit up and he picked me up and spun me around. I leaned down and as our lips met I felt invincible. Like nothing could hurt me. Ethan was all I needed. He was my life raft.

"I love you." he said, his voice ringing in the silent forest. I buried my head into his shoulder.

"I love you too."
