Storms

The sky lit up as thought it was day.
For a split second the space surrounding me lit up.
The trees lit up with a blue hue
They through a dark shadow across the walls of the condo.
The electric zig-zags licked at the sky.
Then darkness.
The darkness strung out for what felt like forever.
Until another flash of deep, electric purple crackled across the black sky.
Silhouettes of trees cast an eerie feeling in the salty air.

We retreat to our room from the small balcony and watch from inside.
We open all the curtains and blinds,
Not wanting to leave the beauty of the electric show.
All the lights are shut off and we lay in our beds and gaze.
We gaze out the window and watch the sky flash with blues and violets.
The bright flashes leave a black outline of the large windows we left open,
And our room lights up with a hue of blue as the light reaches our condo.
Some flashes of lightning brighter than others,
And some last longer.

The crackle of lightning begins to turn into thunder as the storm creeps closer.
Rain begins to fall on to the slick roof and the wind picks up more.
The crackles of the lightning then turn into loud crashes.
The lightning claws at the tips of the trees around our window.
The electric patterns in the sky shine bright,
Almost too bright.
But I still continue to lay in bed,
Gazing out of the windows and watch the lightning scatter across the sky,
Providing lighting like no other.
