Everyone staying at the mountain house at Lake Tahoe was so tired after their day of skiing, they were happy to sit around the fire and do nothing more strenuous than to talk that evening. The younger children were all exhausted. Peter, Amber, and Jessie nearly fell asleep at the dinner table. Their mothers put them to bed soon afterwards, returning to join the adults and the older children by the fire.
"Pssst," Chris said, leaning towards Matt while their elders talked.
"Yeah?" Matt said quietly.
"Want 'a play a game of pool?" Chris asked.
Matt arched a brow. "Best two out of three?"
"You're on," Chris said with a grin, and the two teens disappeared up the stairs.
Jake and Zack decided to go with them, hoping to play a game themselves, leaving only Lisa and Aaron talking with the adults by the fire.
"What are we doing tomorrow, Mom?" Aaron asked Julie.
"Oh, I don't know. What are we doing tomorrow, Dad?" Julie asked.
Greg arched a brow, about the only thing he felt he could manage as a sense of physical tiredness he hadn't felt in a long time settled over him.
"Whatever you would like to do, Julie," he said.
"What are you going to do, Grandpa?" Aaron asked.
"I think I will stay indoors and read my book. I may be persuaded to take a walk in the snow, but I doubt I will engage in anything more strenuous than that," Greg said.
"Oh," Aaron said in disappointment.
"Were you hoping we'd go skiing again?" Elliot asked.
"Well, yeah. We're in this great place, and the ski place isn't that far away, so why not?" Aaron asked.
"We will go again before we go home," Elliot assured his son. "However I think your grandfather is right. We could use a day of rest tomorrow after today."
"Yeah, okay. Then when can we go?" Aaron asked.
"How about the day after tomorrow ... on Wednesday?" Julie suggested.
"Could we go on Friday too?" Aaron pressed, eager to get in as much time on the slopes as he could talk his parents into.
Julie and Elliot exchanged a look between them.
"What is everyone else doing?" she asked.
"My family and I will join you, both days if you're going," Stephen said.
"I'm not sure Amber will want to go if Jessie isn't," Jenny said.
"She is welcome to stay here," Susan said.
"Are you going?" Stephen asked.
Susan looked to Greg. "What do you think?"
"You may if you'd like to, Susan," he said.
Susan sighed and stretched. "Ask me again tomorrow. I'm too tired tonight to think about it."
"A very good suggestion," Greg said.
"Why? Are you thinking about going?" Susan asked.
"I was going to ask John and Karen the same thing. Would you like to ski again while you are here?" Greg asked.
"Oh I don't know. It was fun, but it's such an expensive sport!" Karen lamented.
"It is, but when will we ever have the opportunity to do it like this again?" John said rhetorically.
