I grip my teeth and he holds a cocky smile. His eyes burned yellow while mine burned with hatred. He tried to kill me, why is he even here again?
"Can I help you?" I snap as I continue to eye the wand.
He lets out a (clearly sarcastic but none the less snippy) sigh. "If you want your wand to protect yourself just grab it already! You're so squirmy without it."
"Oh wow!" I walk over and grab my wand. "Squirmy! Good one! And here I thought your vocabulary only lied with the terms freak, disappointment and failure!"
"Oh," he plasters a fake surprised face and lets out a soft chuckle, amusing himself. "There's that teen wit again, they rebellious spirit I've seen so many times before."
I scrunch up my neck and turn my hands into tighter fists. "If you have nothing to say that's worth my time just leave! Your constant nagging every time I slipped up is enough, thank you!"
He looks less amused. "I'm not here to nag you, boy. I'm just here to make sure you don't make all the mistakes I made when I was your age."
I scoff and let the sarcasm ring through my voice heavily. "And here I thought you were born a boring adult in a lawyer costume. You surprise me, clearly my theory wasn't cannon."
He's still not amused. "I don't like that attitude."
"And I don't like you. Looks like we are both gonna have to settle with our disappointing lives now, huh Toffee?" He runs up to me and becomes inches from my face. A shiver rolls down my spine as I pull back, arching my back so my face is farther from his while he arches his so his long, slippery face is more towards me.
"I'm trying to help you!" He says in a dark, foreboding voice.
"I didn't ask for any help!" I scream back, leaning forward a bit.
"Well you clearly need it!" He shouts back. Suddenly, I feel his cold hand on my wrist and he pulls up the wand, my wrist feeling almost numb under his cold, dead hand. "You're gonna need my help if you ever want to master this!"
I yank my hand away and snap back, "I NEVER said I wanted to master this! I'm giving it back to Star as soon as she gets home you overgrown snapping turtle!"
I will admit, not my best insult but I felt like I was about to explode on this jerk. My face was hot and my hands were sweaty and stiff. My stomach was in my throat and my throat was pushing into my spine.
"If you give it back to Star," He says a bit calmer, "she will leave you. She'll abandon you."
"No. She. Won't." I say firmly, standing up. He slides back a little and glares at me.
"You don't understand, Marco. Star's going back to Mewni. Give that back to her and she'll be off sooner rather than later."
"That's not true. Star loves it here."
"And does Moon care about Star's wishes? Does a princess-soon-to-be-queen abandon her entire kingdom because her 'best friend' is here on Earth?" He says 'best friends' with a mocking tone, like one would say to a teenage boy whose acting childish.
"Well... I... Uh..." My tongue felt swollen.
His voice came out seamless and only with slight inflections, "She's only here to practice magic. Why would she stay if her wand is fixed? Her magic would be all fixed as well! You saw how she fought at the castle."
Her magic would be all better again she would have to leave- "Shut. Up."
"And years later would she know, let alone care about you?"
Would she? "Shut. Up."
"Star doesn't care about you."
Does she? "I said shut up?"
He takes a small step towards me, "And would you, Marco Diaz, give up all this power just to make Star happy?"
My eyes stare at my wand. If I keep this, Star would stay?
I feel his hands on my shoulder like a proud father but my mind felt too numb looking at the hypnotizing green light. If I kept this, I could be just as powerful as Star. She seems pretty happy. A wand, we would be equals we would always have each other. And with her wand broken, she would never be able to leave Earth. He wand would never allow her to pass another test her mom gave her, she would have to stay here. With me. My only friend would stay here with me.
Forever.
"SHUT UP!" I scream suddenly and I fling around, something shooting out of me wand causing me to fall back. I slam my head on the frame of my bed and I hear Toffee's reassuring voice telling me to get up, that a little bump wouldn't hurt me. So I stand up half way. My arm is still resting on my bed as I see him in the doorway.
"I didn't laugh-"
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" I scream and stand up straight, letting another blast come out of my wand, smashing him into the hallway wall. The plaster is shot up and I run out of my room in a rush. "I have to get out of here." I cough my way through the dusty plaster and I sprint down the stairs, pushing off the wall so I could turn. I land in front of the door and look into the kitchen out of habit. Toffee turns around on one of the stools and let out a smile.
"Leaving so soon?" He asks, smiling at me.
Smiling. At. Me.
I let out a frustrated scream and shoot a blast so powerful it shakes the whole house. Huge chunks of the cement and plaster from the walls and ceiling coming down on top of me.I wake up suddenly and let out a huge scream. I'm breathing heavily and I'm all alone. I spin around in the complete blackness, not a single person in sight. My feet slip and I begin to run in a direction, my heart panicking.
Why was I so alone?
I have to find Star.
"Star!" I scream as I run faster. "Star!? STAR WHERE ARE YOU!?"
"Thank you Marco!" Her voice rings. I spin around to see her standing there, a bright smile on her face. Her hair was in a French braid over her shoulder and onto a formal blue and white dress that was knee length. She wore silver heels which matched her tiara. Her hands were closed around a suitcase hanging in front of her, it was as blue as her eyes.
"Thanks for-" my chest felt heavy. "Thanks for what?"
She opens her eyes and drops her suitcase. "Such a silly goose. For this!" She leans behind her and spins around with her wand. I gasp at it, the star was perfect in the middle and it looked like the old kind.
"Oh no problem." I stutter. She turns around to reveal a swirling blue portal. "Hey!"
She spins around, "hm?"
"Where are you going?" I ask, tears in my eyes. I know the answer.
"Home." She says simply.
"But... Earth's your home."
"Nope. Sorry Marco but Mewni is and always was my home. And now that my wand is fixed, I don't have to train here anymore! Isn't that great!?"
I sniffle. "Yeah... Great."
She begins to back up. "It was fun Marco Diaz! While I'm sad we'll never get to see each other again I'm glad I got to know you!"
"Never get to see-" I look up at her. "You won't visit me!?"
"I'll be queen! I don't have time to meet up with acquaintances!"
She says it like it obvious. Like I should know that this would happen.
I knew this day would come... I just didn't know I meant so little to her. I knew this was a dream from the start, but it could easily be reality. When Star leaves, will I have meant anything to her?I wake up and gasp, I'm alone in my bed. I look around frantically. My room looks untouched. I get up and look at my wand sticking out of my backpack, it's not glowing at all. I grab it and turn it around, it all looks normal. I check the hallway, no plaster. I peer downstairs, no plaster.
Was that all a dream? A nightmare!? Everything that happened wa sit all in my head!? Was Toffee ever here- of course not! Toffee died! Toffee exploded how could I have forgotten that!?
I let out a scream and march back to my room to see just the lizard I was ranting about sitting in my desk chair.
"I know your not real." I growl as I sit on my bed.
"Oh I'm real," He says in response, "to you at least."
"Then why isn't anything destroyed?" I challenged.
He sighs. "I fixed it. We can't have Star finding out you have a wand, now can we?"
I grasp it tighter. "I guess we can't."...
