I guess you could say I was going insane. But that would be, to put it simply, a colossal understatement.
My ribs felt like they were going to crack, my body was severely lacking oxygen and my face felt all cramped and smushed from laughing for a solid twenty minutes straight. Star actually thought that the building wasn't burned down. I could see it, how the fuck could she not!? It's obviously burned. What a moron! I can't believe I was friends with her! Toffee's right she is a stupid prick. Stuck in her ways, so sad and disappointing!
At this point in time I completely forgot I was still laughing about her stupidity. I laughed and laughed and laughed until I ran out of oxygen and I pretty much began to choke on air at the thought in my head until the world became nothing but a blur of the lilac sky and the charred rubble of the house.I woke up surrounded by rock. They grew so it perfectly outlined my body like when Wiley Coyote falls from a cliff, each hair and finger H outlined to the T.
"Huh," I mumbled, staring at the grey sky; every feeling in the world drained out of me. "I guess I'm dead"
And, at that moment, I was dead. My body was numb, my mind was slow and one tracked and I had no feelings. I had no future, no past and my present was slowly trickling by.
I was dead.
As I sit up and stare out at the cold, desolate desert, green lightening cracks above me with a soft thunder. A thick fog roles over the darkness and I finally stand up inside my me-shaped hole. I get up and begin to walk, and that's all I could do. The ground was the same, nothing ever changed. The fog was the same thickness, the lightening cracked on cue, even my head didn't seem to bob up and down.
Man, being dead was boring.
"Hello!?" I whine loudly, my feet dragging. "I'm booooored. I'm tired of being dead."
No answer. I sigh and continue, my pace the same. I wasn't going anywhere per say, I was just walking. Maybe I'd find someone. But maybe if I'd walked the other way from my hole I would've ran into someone right away. Maybe if I'd stay in my hole someone would find me, and now that I'm moving no one ever will. Maybe if I picked up my pace my path would've crossed with someone else's. I wish I knew. My wand could tell me. I'm a guy that likes to be prepared, or at least I was to be a one until I died. I have a magical item that can give me unthinkable power, I guess maybe with all that power I could come back to life.
The dirt is kicked up as my feet swiftly stop and I reach my hand over my head. My feet arch until I'm on my toes and I take a deep breath, concentrating as the clouds begin to role over a bit thicker.
Than a bolt of free lighting zapped my finger with a satisfying deep scream.I open my eyes slowly to find myself on my bed. My eyes roll to the side to see my clock is busted, 12:00 is flashing violently. The drapes are closed, it's dusty and murky in here.
"I'm bored again." I announce to know one in particular. Just thought I'd say it.
I go to sit up but I feel my shoulders tied down. I finally look down at my dirt-covered button down and my ripped shorts to find I have three glowing rainbow bands holding my shoulders, waist and knees down to my own bed.
"Have a nice sleep?" Toffee asks from leaning against a wall of my room.
"Wonderful." I spit sarcastically. "Where's Fredrick?"
"He's not here anymore." Toffee smirks.
"What did you do to him?" I question harshly.
"I did nothing!" He holds up his hands with innocence, a small smile creasing his lips. "It was all Star."
"Star?"
"Sadly she caught Fredrick and killed him. So be it, that boy wouldn't have been any help."
"She... What?"
Toffee leaned forward. "Destroyed him, got rid of him, all synonyms my dear boy. Star made sure you'd never see him again."
"WHAT!?" I clench my teeth and let out a strong scream of frustration. My arms and legs rub against the bands as I struggle to break free. How dare she kill someone! Especially my friend that's just, not okay!
"She's so selfish isn't she?" Toffee coos as he takes a few steps towards me and places his hands down in my bed next to me. "C'mon Marco let me help you. Together we can make sure the royal family never hurts anyone ever again!"
I was so filled with rage, my eyes filled with tears and my face burning red and I exhaled a firm, "Yeah." And a my mind was swept into a correct. A numb sensation fell over my body, I'm pushed to the side of my mind, my thoughts all getting piled neatly into bins to be shipped to a far away storage facility.
"Marco?" Star opens the door and I breathe out heavily.
Although I didn't actually do the breathing. I could feel my warm breath dance across my lips but I wasn't the one to actually move my lungs to breathe. So maybe I should continue by saying we, since I clearly wasn't in charge of myself anymore but I was still in my brain to experience from first person.
Star moves across the room carefully, stopping a few feet from us and holding herself in her arms. She wore a green and blue striped tank top and a pair of jean shorts with tall teal socks that raised to her knees. Her hair was in a messy French braid that landed itself down to the bottom of her rib age.
"Well I hope you're hear to apologize." I- we sneer.
"For?"
We shrug and turn out head to her and flash a smile. "It's not nice to tie a friend to their bed, you must know that."
"A friend yes." Star puts her arms back by her side. "But you are no friend."
"I'm hurt." We say, monotone. "I thought we we're friends, guess I did actually mean nothing to you."
"Marco's my friend. And you're not him." Star frowns.
"You're not wrong but you're not right. I'll give you partial credit for that answer."
"Shut up. I want my friend back." Star began to sound a bit choked up.
We snicker softly. "You are such a self-absorbed princess. Do you honestly think Marco's not enjoying have more power than you?"
"I am enjoying it." I think.
"I know he think he's liking it." Star's eyes turn into a dam threatening to let salty tears flow through. "I know I'm a bit of a showboat around him. But he doesn't want to hurt people."
A laugh escaped our throat. "Oh Butterfly it doesn't matter how you feel about it, the results don't lie." I burst into a fit of laughter and push against the bad with the shoulders, arching my back and putting all my weight on my neck. "He saved a kid from burning like a marshmallow!"
"We both know he didn't do that."
We continue to laugh and gasp for air, but it wasn't he same as before, we could actually breathe. "He did! He saved a kid just like how he talked to Fredrick."
"And Fredrick is-?" Star waits impatiently for us to finish.
"Well let's just say you destroyed him. He was my innocence, the kind of entity that could... Oh I don't know... Talk a friend out of picking up a dangerous magical item?"
"Entity?" I wonder quickly but soon that thought of discomfort with the phrasing was shut into a vault and pushed to the back of my mental storage unit.
"He was a part of you?" A light bulb flashes on above Star's head and she nods to herself, self-confirming a theory.
We shake out head solemnly, "And I'm going to find where you hide it and destroy it and get my wand back and then and only then, Princess Butterfly, I'm coming for you."
Star takes a step back, a chill rolling down her spine and goes to the door. She turns back and connects eyes with me, my brown eyes melting with hers. But then they flash a violent gold and we scream a hysterical "Boo!" And when she jumps back into the doorway. We let out a devious snicker.
"I'm getting him back." She says with a slight wavering voice, her feet brig inning her into the doorway.
"I'm sure you'll try!" We call after her, moving my- our head to watch her grab the door handle with a clammy hand.
Then the door is slammed closed.WAHMP WAHMP
