[Quietus: death or something that causes death, regarded as a release from life; something that has a calming or soothing effect]
Toffee gapes at me, our eyes meeting every so often. Blood runs down my legs and my chin, the vine moving a bit which is excruciatingly horrid but I guess I deserved it after what I did to even end up in this situation. I cough as more blood rises through my throat like vomit, my hands run on the warm liquid and I begin to slowly slip down the vine. My feet dangled several inches from the ground but my fingers were clamped so I didn't fall anymore, which would gage the whole more.
"Hey Toffee," I manage to say, my voice raspy like I just screamed for a day straight. "Answer me this."
"What?" He snaps back, his hands clenched into fists.
"What do you feel when I say Moon's name?" I cough again, even more blood shooting through my throat from my stomach.
"Hatred. Anger. Disgust. What a trivial question, really."
I take a deep breath and sputter through the pain, "Star told me... When she visited here... that hate and love sometimes feel the same. For both you feel sick to your stomach... and your face flames up and your heart beats fast..."
"I assure you, I don't love Moon."
"It's funny how the two extremes are so similar." I felt dizzy and weak, my mouth threatened to never open again. "I think you still love her."
"I don't." He assures me. "Her kind is a vial thing."
"They are different, aren't they."
Toffee studies me. "You're going to die, I hope you know that. You'll last longer in here than in real life because your body isn't physical but slowly and painfully you'll begin to break apart."
"I know." I grab the vine even tighter so I'd stop slipping down it. "But if this was one forth of your magic I have a feeling Moon could've saved herself."
Toffee grips his jagged teeth. "You are a fool. Why save them? Are you going to get something out of being the hero?"
"Yeah that's one of my issues." I can feel my eyes loosing their color. "Star once told me to be her friend instead of a hero. Maybe I should've taken that advice more seriously."
Toffee was not amused.
"Why not blast some more magic again?" I suggest as the green vine shifts around my organs a little more. I make a sound that's too high pitched to be a grunt but too throaty to be a squeal.
"I can't. I have to use all I have left to keep you here. If I leave so will that vine and you won't die like you were supposed to."
"So now you're battling Moon and Star with only three-fourths of your magic?"
He grumbles a yes.
"You're going to die."
"We're going to die." He corrects.
"So be it. I'm already half dead anyways."
"If you would've just fallen asleep in the grass you would've died peacefully. But now you will die slowly, writhing in agony and suffering until you're very last breath."
I gulp. "You aren't going to win." I repeat as my fingers slip and the gain crushes my ribs, sending more blood sliding down.
"I believe you are mistaken, Marco." He whips his tail around on the floor as he slowly walks his way up to me. "My magic isn't what makes me strong, no. It's my ability to realize that when you fall down you bleed. There are no rainbows, or unicorns or fluffy bunnies, it's just the cold crimson waterfall of blood and war and suffering."
"No. Not true." I cough again as my lungs begin to collapse. "You... See the world as... You fall... And everything falls apart. You... Think... That-if you... Get a small scrape... Your bones have-shattered..."
Toffee scoffs and marches away. "Tsk."
"You think....everyone's out... To get you, Toff-ee." I push myself up slightly and my lungs reopen. "But in real life, no one gives a rats ass about you. No one ever did."
"Shut up!" He screams as he spins around. A knife is launched and hits me right in the heart. I begin to take deep, staggered breaths as I gasp for air. I look up through all the pain and see one of his hands missing.
"Using-magic?" I cough and try my hardest not to fall. If my lungs were starting to collapse and the bottom was much wider than where I am now, I would die instantly. All the pain would go away in the flash. Like a bomb. If my hands slip, I won't be able to realize that I'm falling until I die.
"Just die!" He screams.
"But I-don't... wanna... die." I say through clenched teeth.
"Why...?" He mocks. "For Star!?"
"Why... Is that... We-ird? You-r doing all-this... For-Moon." The room is covered in spots, my vision is narrowed onto his body as he runs towards me. It's like the tunnel vision from the cafeteria, everything else is blurred out. The sound is gone.
With the last of my energy, I grab the knife from my chest. My arms are so tired, I just want to go to sleep. My entire body protested loudly, pissed that I wasn't giving up. It was covered in pins and needles and pain but I had to. With the little bit of life I had last, the well dressed lizard was right on top of me, the rest of his arm had become a sword placed in his other hand. I raised the knife so it was close to his heart but then my head snapped. Everything slowed down all at once, and I was given enough time. I flipped he knife slightly to the side and caught it backhanded, my pinky and ring finger getting mostly cut off by blade they landed on. With the last of my strength, I pulls my hand across and the knife is driven right through his crystal right as his sword cracks my skull open.
He is exploded backwards in a flash of green light. The sky break out in a loud, thunderous protest as Toffee gets up. He begins to scream as his body cracks like ice in a hot drink. He stares at me intensely with wide, golden eyes and holds his hand.
"You! You fucker! You killed me!" He scream while staring. "I am going to murder you! I am going to slowly and painfully rip apart your flesh until you can't even move anymore!"
I let out a laugh that gets interrupted by the giant vine growing through my core. "You already-did... that... you-overgrown snapping turtle."
He takes a step towards me but his foot is dissolved into dust. He falls and his tail begins to shake until it cracks like a class and shatters. His face is driven into two like a continental drift and blood points trough it and down is slippery face. His teeth fall out and his small scales begin to shed until I can almost see his muscles and bones from under them. A ripple is sent through his body and his eye match mine for what seemed at the time like an eternity. I watch has his eyes loose there light and give them back to me, he screams until his mouth is nothing but green shards on the floor.
I pray for a wind to take the dust away, but no such luck.
"Finally," I cough anyways as blood rolls down my face from my split skull. "I'm dead."AAAAAAAAAAND...
