[HAPPY EASTER]
I was stuck.
Well, metaphorically. I was obviously not stuck physically because if I was stuck I could easily use my wand to get unstuck from whatever had me stuck.
But I was, nonetheless, stuck.
I was torn between feeling good for what I did and feeling horrible. My body had this yucky, achy feeling to it; like how you feel right before you fall completely ill. And as I paced back and forth in this small pocket where a closet is supposed to be and never was put in, I ran my fingers through my matted hair until it was almost slicked back with all the sweat. I fall to the ground leaned my head back against the wall, just trying to breathe.
My meditative exhale was interrupted by a condescending slow clap and a "Good job, Marco." I look over to see Toffee stepping over my legs and sitting down next to me in the dimmed pocket. He looks at me, smiling with bright yellow eyes.
"What!?" I snap.
He chuckles. "That was a brilliant stunt you pulled."
"How so? Star probably knows that I have the wand now and Brittany's gonna tell on me and I'm skipping class, so I'll probably get detention. Yeah... I'm a genius."
"Well I believe Brittany won't say anything if you threaten her." Toffee smirks and I grip my teeth in disgust. We hold a long state with high tension until someone interrupts that with a squeaky, "No more hurting people!"
I turn my head to see a boy about my age I guess, probably a little older. He had messy black hair and sickly grey skin; along with big, light brown eyes covered in eyeliner and massive K9 teeth. He wore a long black sweatshirt with red edging and a cute skull in the middle (it had spades on the cheeks) and black jeans with work boots.
"Can I help you?" I snap.
He fiddles with his hair, "I just think... Ya know with a wand like that... You should... I don't know... Do... Good?"
"How do you know about my wand?" I inquire harshly.
"I uh... Just... Ya know... Guessed?" He smiled awkwardly and decided to sit down next to me. I pull up my collar and scoot away, holding my bag in my lap.
"You're right not to trust him, Marco." Toffee admires, scowling at the boy.
"Hey I have just as much right to be here as you, dude!" He yells back.
"Oh I beg to-"
"Wait." I interrupt and look at the boy, "You can see Toffee?"
He nods. "Well yeah... Why wouldn't I be able to?"
I look back at Toffee and he laughs as says, "I told you I'm real."
"So..." I shake a little and look back at the boy, "what's your name?"
"Fredrick." He says with a smile. "I'm in the year above you."
I nod, "Okay. Any reason you know about my wand?"
He looks away. "I mean I did see you at the house. Man you were so heroic! The way to saved that kid!"
"I killed him." I snap back.
"No..." Fredrick shook his head. "Last I saw he was alive. That's where I met Toffee, in fact. The kid was alive. Isn't that right, Toffee?" We both turn our attention to the suspiciously quiet lizard.
He looks away, "Yeah I guess."
I smile and turn back to Fredrick, "You saw the whole thing?"
"Pretty rad stuff." Fredrick laughs and we bump fist. And for the first time in a while I actually smile.
So the conversation with both Fredrick and Toffee drones on for the next two periods or so, to be honest I lost track of time. We talked about magic and spells and I mentioned Star and her book and all the adventures we went on. Toffee seemed interested in Glosseryk but for the life of me I could not tell you why. It was around third period when I brought up the fight Star and I had before SOMEBODY (*cough cough* Toffee *cough*) kidnapped me.
"Wow." Fredrick eyes are wide open when I finished my tale. "That was harsh, dude."
"I knew that girl was a prick." Toffee growls.
"Hey!" Fredrick howls at Toffee, "It's not nice to call people pricks! Sure, Star was a bit out of line-"
"She was being a prick! Marco messed up her sandwich, that's no reason to yell at your friend! Therefore she's a prick!"
"Hey now wait a second-!" Fredrick screamed back.
"A sandwich is hardly the price of friendship!" Toffee interrupts again. "Marco should have taken a strong stance!"
"No Marco did perfectly!" Fredrick smiles at me and I wave with an awkward grin back.
"Oh please! He was weak and now with this wand he could be stronger and destroy that prick!"
"Okay sure... Star was out of line with the whole 'it makes me wonder why we're even friends' line but it was one fight! I hardly call her such a devious word!"
"She's a Butterfly, they are all devils in there own way!"
"Are you kidding me!? She is one of the nicest people I've ever known!"
"Oh really!? Give it a few months and you'll see what really happens! She's show her true colors eventually!" Toffee was now steaming and if I squinted I could almost see tears in his eyes. And, for the second time today, I lost count of what was going on. I couldn't imagine they were both talking about Star anymore.
Fredrick got up and shouted some rude words and stormed away and I gave Toffee a sarcastic grin and a "So this is why you don't have many friends."
"I don't need friends." He leaves me as well. "I'm an adult."
It only took a minute for me to realized how boring it was without my two "friends" around. I pull out my wand from all the paper towels and wave it around a little, a strong green light pulsing from it. But I sigh, as antisocial as I am sometimes in actuality I'm extroverted and this was just depressing. So I leave my little nook and walk into the bright and blinding hallway, the walls painted white and green and full of cracks. Man, I was tired. Maybe I should go home. No point in staying I guess if I'm just gonna be lonely.
I turn to leave, running my finger through my slicked back hair one more time. I casually stroll around the corner, and soon I wish I hadn't left.
"Marco!" Star screams. She had on a jean jumper and white shirt under it. Her sandals laced up her shins and her wand was in her hand, glowing.
"What?" I snap, my spin straightening a little.
"What was that!?" She screams, obviously referring to the Brittany thing. Her eyes trail down to my hand which has my wand. "What is that!?" I look at it and let out a slight laugh. Our eyes connect again, but both of our uneasy expressions had shifted. Her's is confused and worried, mine is giddy and wide-eyed.
"It's my wand." I say and look down at it.
"Your... What?" Her voice wavers.
"My WAND!" I scream at her. "Damn was I not speaking clear enough for you, princess."
"Since when did you have a wand?" She takes a step back.
My brain pulls to the back of my head and I feel my hand run through my hair. I felt numb, like I was outside of my own body. "I've had it for long enough."
"Is that half a star in the middle?" She glances from her wand to mine and I knew she figured it out.
"Yeah." I pull it close to my chest. "But it's mine so that doesn't matter."
"What?"
I speak with a little laugh trickling out of my throat, "Yeah that's right. It's mine. You're not the only one with a wand."
"Yes it does! Marco I need that back!"
I smile and laugh. "You don't need it. You want it. Because you're a greedy little prick."
"Damn it." I hear Fredrick snap behind me.
"Marco. Give it to me." She hugs herself. "It's clearly not good for you!"
"Not good for me!?" I shout before I even know what I'm saying. "I knew it! I knew you wouldn't understand. That's why I didn't tell you."
"Marco just calm down!" She screams.
"Told you she wouldn't get it." Toffee mocks.
"What? No dude she's just surprised." Fredrick retorts smoothly.
"She's a greedy little pig isn't she?" Toffee smirks.
"Marco I need you to give it to me." She says calmly and takes a step towards me.
"Little selfish little prissy princess ain't she-"
"JUST SHUT UP!" I scream and my heart gross a pain like a worker trying to tunnel his way through my rib cage. I throw a blast at Star, the pain lightening up a little. She screams and I was so dizzy and snapped out of reality that I couldn't even tell you if it hit her. The pain grew back as soon as the green beam died. Something was digging at my chest, trying to get to my heart and it hurt goddamn it!
I scream a lift my arm to throw another blast at her.
"SOMNOUS!" A silver blast is fired at me through the smoke.
