I sighed and put the envelope on the passenger seat before putting the ignition and driving home.
Before I got home, I stopped at a store and picked up a watch I had seen for Max, one day when I was coming back from work. I had put it aside, before leaving for Australia. I wasn't sure if we were still going to be together when I did, but I didn't want to take any risks.
When I got to the apartment, I plugged my phone to the charger and went into the shower. Once I had finished everything I had to do in the bathroom, I went to my room and grabbed a pair of high waist light blue skinny jeans, a white crop top and my white ballerinas. I wrapped Max's watch and walked out the door, grabbing my phone on my way out. I checked it really quickly, as the battery was still pretty low and I saw that I had a miss call from Max. I decided to not call him back; I was heading to the hotel anyway.
I sat in my car and drove to Max's hotel. A couple of minutes later, I parked my car in the hotel's parking and walked straight to Max's room. I knocked twice, but he didn't answer. He was probably eating his breakfast. I went back to the elevator and pressed the button to go down.
When the doors open on the lobby, I walked out slowly. I really didn't know how I was going to break this news to him. It wasn't a bad news, well I think; it was just going to change everything, in a certain way. Hopefully, Max was going to be happy about it and not think that things are moving too quickly.
I walked into the hotel's restaurant and stood in front of the open double doors, looking around, searching for someone; I couldn't see anyone. I walked a little further in the restaurant and saw Jay pouring himself a glass of orange juice.
"Bird!" I shouted, making people look at me. Jay turned around, which is a good thing, because I didn't want to have to call him again and disturb everyone, once more.
"Ollie!" he said with his cute little smile. "How are you?"
"I'm good." I answered, smiling back at him. "Where is everyone?" I asked him.
"We're all eating outside, except Siva and your sister. They stayed in their room. They said they wanted to have breakfast alone." he answered.
"More like they wanted to exercise alone, if you know what I mean." I replied, with an over exaggerated wink.
We both laughed and Jay nodded. We walked outside, to their table. Max stood up when he saw me and walked in my direction.
"Happy Birthday!" I said, lifting the bag with Max's watch in it.
A smile and a surprised look appeared on his face as he un-wrapped his gift. When he opened the box; his eyes started sparkling. He looked genuinely happy. I knew then that I had done the right thing.
"It's not a Rolex, but Tissot is still a pretty good brand." I said.
"I love it. Thank you so much." he said, putting it on and it fit perfectly. He grabbed my face and gave me a kiss.
"Sorry, I wasn't there when you woke up. I got a call from work and I had to leave right away. I'm sorry I did not answer my phone, the battery was dead." I said as he was still looking at the watch. I did not want to make him unhappy; I just wanted him to know.
"I thought you had left me..." he whispered, looking down at our feet.
"Never, silly." I said, putting my finger under his chin and lifting his head up. I kissed his perfect lips and I felt him smile against my mouth, before I pulled away.
"I love you, don't forget that." I murmured.
"I love you too." he answered. "Did you have breakfast?" he asked.
