Veronica did her best to toss a pebble carefully at Betty's bedroom window, wanting to grab her attention but not wake her sleeping parents. God help her if Alice Cooper found her trying to talk to her daughter at three in the morning. She wore her usual dark cape, her hood down rather than up seem as she didn't want anyone thinking she was trying to break in or anything.

Veronica winced as she threw a pebble a little too hard and it crashed hard against the window, surprisingly it didn't shatter although she had no doubt that a mark would be left. Thankfully she didn't have to toss anymore up seem as an exhausted Betty appeared in the window, her hair looked like a bird had tried to build a home in it and her expression told Veronica that she wasn't happy to be woken from her slumber.

Betty visibly sighed and moved her curtains out of the way so that she could open her window. Veronica smiled in victory, glancing over her shoulder to make sure no one was creeping up behind her like they often did in horror movies.

"Veronica? What the hell are you doing here at..." Betty turned to look at her alarm clock, her eyes widening as she looked back down at her friend. "Three in the morning?"

"I missed you, sunshine," Veronica called up sweetly, a mischievous smile stretched across her lips. Betty rolled her eyes playfully at the pet name, waiting for the real reason. "Ok, ok. Look, Cheryl called me." Betty's smile faltered and immediately formed into a scowl at the mention of the redhead. "And I thought it was best if I tell you right away rather than later, the Blossom's have a plan, as soon as Polly gives birth - they'll have the rights to take away the child."

Betty no longer cared about the redhead, pushing her to the back of her mind. She thought of her sister and the baby, if the Blossoms took away the child she knew Polly would likely never see it again - being brought up by the Penelope Blossom was something you'd only imagine in a nightmare.

Betty closed the window as quick as she could, her action making Veronica's eyebrows crease, unsure if she was coming outside or if she thought the news was pointless and she was going back to bed. Veronica pouted as she waited, moving to sit on the curb. It didn't take much longer until Betty appeared from her house, closing the luminous pink door as quietly as she could, knowing if her parents found out she was outside after curfew they'd kill her.

Betty let out a breath of relief as she sunk down beside her best friend, the two sat so their sides were pressed against one another - doing their best to keep the warmth they had.

"What are we going to do? Polly couldn't handle losing her child. She could barely handle losing Jason." Betty worried, her hands resting in her lap as she studied the filthy road; she could see the faint tire marks which you would barely notice if you were just casually walking by.

But Betty remembered when they appeared there, it was after a car that had been passing through swerved to avoid a dog that had ran into the road. Betty and Polly had been out on the lawn playing with their dolls at the time, but she could still hear the screeching of the tires and the sound as the car hit the dog. Sometimes she still had nightmares about it. A shiver ran down her spine at the memory.

"Don't worry B. We'll figure something out. We're B & V, don't we always?" Veronica smiled softly, glancing fondly at the blonde cosied close beside her.

She knew Betty had been handling a lot of stress lately, what with her family drama, her rivalry with Cheryl, the murder mystery and dealing with the fact that Jughead had feelings for her that she just couldn't reciprocate. Betty put her head in her hands, giving herself a moment to think. She felt Veronica slide her arm around her, allowing the blonde to rest her head on her shoulder.

"Don't stress, love. It won't help."

"I know, but V...they could build the perfect case against Polly, they'll use her attitude from school, her relationship with Jason as well as being locked up in a place for troubled girls and all of that will make it easy for the judge to come to a decision." Betty explained, she looked up meeting the warmth of Veronica's dark eyes as she smiled lovingly down at her.

"Then we'll have to fight back." Veronica encouraged her, giving her arm a tight squeeze. "I could ask Cheryl to help us, she could give a stand on all the reasons the child shouldn't be raised by the Blossom's. I could see it in Cheryl's eyes when she warned me about her parents, she doesn't want the child to grow up in the household she did. She knows Jason hated it too and she just wants to protect the baby."

Betty nodded, as much as she disliked the idea of asking Cheryl for help, she hated the idea of losing her niece or nephew to the Blossoms more.

"Ok, but it'll be best if you ask her to make a stand...she's taken a liking to you." Betty tried to say without sounding bitter but Veronica didn't miss the way Betty's jaw clenched as she spoke. Veronica slipped her hand into hers, intertwining their fingers offering Betty a grin.

"We get along, I agree. But she's nothing compared to you and me, B. No need to be salty." Veronica smirked in amusement at Betty's distaste in her and Cheryl spending time together. Betty's eyebrows furrowed and she shook her head in denial.

"I wasn't being bitter, I just..." She started, searching for a reason. "Don't want her snatching you away so you can join her weird sorority thing." Betty muttered glancing at their joined hands as Veronica tightened her hold, her thumb absentmindedly stroking the back of her hand. "So, did you sneak out to get here?"

"My mom was asleep, it was relatively easy to leave without being heard." Veronica shrugged, "Although it took a while reaching here, but luckily most people are asleep at four in the morning." Betty shook her head at her friend, Veronica had gone out of her way to come over and inform her at 4 am - something that was important to Betty.

Betty had always been one to cherish friendship, she thought it was the key to life, everyone needs a friend. Someone they relate to on a level like no other and once upon a time Betty thought that was Archie. But now, she was positive it was Veronica. She was by her side even through her stupid ideas, and silly suggestions. She never belittled her either, she encouraged her to open up more, to be more stubborn rather than letting people trample all over her. She'd stuck beside her even when she went full psycho and almost drowned Chuck. And that's what Betty cherished most; her and Veronica's relationship.
