Day Of The Game.

Betty gnawed on her bottom lip, her nerves growing by the second as the cheerleaders readied to perform and the players readied to play. In moments it would be her turn to step up into the spotlight and draw the audiences attention to her and her voice, she had no idea if she really was a good singer, Josie seemed impressed by her vocals and she trusted Veronica's judgement, Cheryl had allowed Veronica last week off of practice so that she could go and hear Betty practice. She had to credit Josie, her voice sounded better and in tune than it used to be. Betty found herself searching the football grounds for Veronica, she knew the girl would be almost as nervous as her, she'd been practicing hard to get the move on point and in Betty's opinion, she aced it. Betty's heart quickened when she couldn't spot the brunette, she worried she might've left, or worse was caught up with one of the players. The thought made a bubble anger form in Betty's stomach but she shooed it away when she spotted Veronica moving quick towards her.

"Hey, you ready?" Ronnie asked, coming to a halt before the blonde, she gave Betty a once-over, she liked seeing Betty in her pretty little dresses seem as Betty only wore them on occasions rather than almost everyday like Veronica did. Betty felt her cheeks warm as she watched Veronica eye her, she cleared her throat, bringing the brunettes attention back to her eyes.

"I guess, I mean what if what happened to Archie happens to me?" Betty worried, she was sure at any moment her lip would begin to bleed so she forced herself to stop. Veronica gave her a supportive smile and stepped closer, taking hold of Betty's hand, holding it gently in her own.

"I promise, if you screw up and freak out, I'll screw up the routine so that we both look like idiots and the focus isn't entirely on you." Veronica smirked, Betty knew she was telling the truth, and it made her pull Veronica into a quick hug, pressing a kiss to her cheek.

"Thank you, V."

"Hey sluts! We're about to begin, move your asses!" Cheryl yelled, her hands on her hips as the two separated glaring over at the redhead, Betty took a deep breath and nodded a good luck to Veronica and she did the same before skipping off to get into position. Betty glanced up at the stage, she was never one to stand up in front of people and she rarely liked singing in front of anyone but Veronica and Kevin, but she was taking a big step and she pushed herself to walk up onto the stage. Josie had recommended a pianist, drummer and guitarist to play in the background seem as Betty didn't know anyone who could do all of that.

It hadn't taken Betty too long to choose a song, she used Veronica's help and then Josie's seem as she was the one training her voice, she gave Betty a piece she wouldn't usually offer to a beginner seem as it was one for a professional singer, but when Betty sang it, she might as well be a professional. If  I were a boy wasn't exactly a song you'd sing at a football game but Josie wanted to wow people with Betty's voice. That's exactly what she did. The moment she began singing people were taken aback, she wasn't surprised by their reactions, she was called the most shy girl in her year, suddenly bursting into song wasn't exactly what they'd expect. She even saw Archie's eyebrows raise. Betty's eyes trained on Veronica as she began the routine, most eyes now watching the cheerleaders as they flipped and pranced around showing off their skills, Veronica spun around as she was about to begin the move she'd been practicing for weeks, Betty gave her a wink to say she'll do amazing, Veronica seemed to have gotten the message and took a breath and began the move.

Betty finished her song moments before the cheerleaders stopped, taking a quick bow at the cheers and claps, then moving quickly off the stage and clapping for the cheerleaders as they came to a stop, waving their pom poms in the air. Cheryl made her way to Veronica, congratulating her on not messing up then bobbing her head at Betty as a well done. Betty didn't quite believe that Cheryl was giving her a well done but it was pushed to the back of her mind when Veronica maneuvered out of the herd of girls who were telling her she did great. Betty grinned and headed towards her with open arms, Veronica let out a sweet laugh and wrapped her arms around Betty.

"I told you you could do it! You were incredible!" Veronica complimented, holding Betty as tight as she could, she was still catching her breath and getting over her own nerves but she was proud of her best friend.

"As were you, damn V, I've seen you practice but that was better than all your practices combined," Betty beamed, letting out a giggle of her own as she held Veronica's forearms, giving her her widest smile. "Cheryl made a good decision making you the lead today."

"She made two good decisions, besides, I wanted to give it all I had and thankfully you didn't screw up because I was on a roll," Veronica joked, bumping Betty playfully, her eyes dancing as she looked into Betty's blue ones. "No joking though B. You did amazing up there, maybe even better than Josie."

Betty cheeks warmed as she glanced down at her feet at the genuine compliment, "Well I thought why not show these kids I'm not just the shy kid." Betty shrugged, giving Veronica the usual smile and shrug she gave her when the brunette complimented her. Veronica inched forward, wondering if Betty knew what she was about to do, the blonde sensed the next move and gladly leaned in for a kiss. Veronica's hands cupped Betty's jaw, her finger trailing her flawless jawline and her other hands thumb, stroking Betty's cheek. They broke apart, both grinning from ear to ear, their cheeks flushed. Veronica pressed her lips in a line, whilst Betty licked her lips and cleared her throat. "So...milkshake at Pop's?"

"Milkshake at Pop's." Ronnie confirmed, sliding her hand into Betty's and entwining their fingers, they didn't care about the shock of the people around them when the two finally shared an open kiss, they were just glad that they weren't hiding their feelings anymore. Betty smiled down at Veronica, she'd always loved the brunette being shorter than her.

"You know our first kiss, at the cheerleading tryouts?" Betty asked.

"Mm."

"I never told you that that was my first kiss." Betty confessed, her cheeks flooding red once again. She knew Veronica was way more experienced in these things, that the kiss definitely wasn't her first. But when the girl looked up at her, she had a soft look on her face.

"Well I hope it was a good one."

"It was the best one." Betty laughed softly, squeezing Veronica's hand as they walked through the gates, she felt Veronica hold he hand back. They were both walking side by side, in unison with one another and wearing smiles that they knew couldn't be wiped off their faces in this very moment.
