Entering Riverdale High the next day was intense, Betty and the group were shot looks as they headed down the corridor, continuing their conversations but very aware of the piercing eyes that were on them as they walked. Betty was thankful that Veronica had laced their fingers together at some point, giving her a quick squeeze to tell her to simply ignore it. The stares were the last thing on Veronica's mind, she was used to prying eyes she'd had a whole lot of them on her when she was leaving her old home in New York - so this was nothing. No, she was more concerned about the whereabouts of Chuck, they hadn't seen him yet and Veronica was almost sure Chuck would be in today, well at least that's what Cheryl had informed her.
Veronica glanced around the hallway, people eventually returning to their everyday school business - that fact making Betty ease up - not holding onto Veronica's hand as tight as before. Archie and Jughead were down the hall laughing about some video game they'd been playing last night, playfully punching each other as they judged one another's gaming skills, so Betty and Veronica chose to stay out of that conversation. The two girls went on to talk about the movie they'd watched last night, then the conversation drifted into one about Polly and her twins.
"She told me last night that she thinks it will be any day now, she's gotten so big I'm surprised she can still walk." Betty giggled, Veronica smirked Polly had been groaning about how she looked like a balloon and the two girls couldn't help but find it amusing.
"Soon enough my house will be filled with screaming, but hey, I love kids." Veronica shrugged, imagining the twins running around the place; she noted that she'd need to get a lock on her bedroom door if Betty plans to stay a little longer than the first year of the twins life.
Betty smiled fondly to her girlfriend, she could picture Veronica being good with the kids, knowing how to get them to go to sleep as though she'd been a mother before. Betty just hoped she could be useful like that.
"Well I bet they'll be adorable, Polly was the cute one as a baby...I was more like a chubby mess." Betty cringed, her baby photos flashing in her mind. Veronica chuckled, shaking her head.
"I'm sure you were cute too, you should see my baby photos!"
Betty raised an eyebrow at her, a grin on her lips. "Veronica...you were a baby model, you were probably the cutest child in New York."
"My mum got paid a lot for that stuff, they even let her keep some of the clothes I modelled," Veronica spoke, wondering what her mother did with all that money. "Do you think she put it in my college fund?'".
Betty thought about it for a second and shook her head. "You were like a billionare, I doubt she saved a few hundred...honestly, she probably put money away for your college tuition the moment you were born."
Veronica tilted her head in agreement, that would make sense. They walked quickly together for a few seconds, enjoying the quiet until Kevin came out of the home room, just where they were heading and his sudden appearance made the couple stop abruptly, the boys who'd not seen them stop crashing right into them. Betty and Veronica glared over their shoulders as the boys gave them apologetic looks. Betty turned back to Kevin smiling brightly at her best friend.
"You finally showed your face, huh?" Betty smirked. "You see your boyfriend more than us nowadays, and us you're actually allowed to see."
Betty folded her arms waiting for an explanation, she'd missed him. Before Veronica, Kevin was one of the main people she hung around with seem as Archie was always at his football games and off helping his dad. Kevin rubbed the nape of his neck, giving her a small smile.
"Actually, I've just been avoiding the drama," Kevin linked his arm in one of Betty's crossed arms making her let the other drop to her side. Kevin was walking them away from the homeroom. "But I've missed you too my little blonde, but Joaquin and I are trying to see each other as much as possible seem as he's taking a trip for a week next week."
"Well...I'll let you off then," Betty sighed, sticking her nose in the air. "We're going in the opposite direction of the homeroom."
Betty attempted to head back towards the homeroom but Kevin caught her hand pulling her back towards him, spinning her as though she was dancing and ended up facing the way she was just now. Betty folded her arms and frowned, she could see the others were just as confused as her by Kevin's actions. The boy unusually twitchy and nervous.
"Kevin...why can't I go into the homeroom?" Betty asked, giving him a look to make sure he didn't avoid her question.
Kevin hesitated, wringing his hands anxiously before speaking. "Chuck's in there."
Betty should have known he'd be in there, she hadn't seen him anywhere else and before he'd been temporarily kicked out suspended, she'd seen him in there a few times. Betty sighed, she wasn't going to cower away from him just because he'd seen a side of her she couldn't control. Plus she didn't want Chuck to think he scares her, so with Kevin's warnings, she turned around recapturing Veronica's hand and headed for the space where they'd spend most of their breaks.
