Betty walked with Archie to school as she always did, even though her mother disapproved. She met up with Veronica and Kevin at the gates, they were quick to swap who they were walking with - Betty rushing quick to Veronica's side as she passed her her usual mocha that Veronica would pick up for her in the mornings.
Betty smiled brightly over at the brunette, her heart warmed when she saw Veronica and she noticed she was wearing her usual colour; berry purple. Betty had agreed when she said purple was her colour, she'd always figured Veronica would be a girl who liked green but she suited purple better.
"Did you get at least a couple of hours sleep after what I told you?" Veronica asked, her tone stern, concern washing over her expression as she watched Betty. She already knew the answer, it was one of the reasons Veronica didn't want to venture over to Betty's the night before, she knew after the news Betty wouldn't be able to go back to sleep.
"Uh, yeah." Betty lied, she earned herself a disapproving glare from Veronica, she swallowed knowing the girl could tell she was lying. "Sorry, no. I didn't, I've been trying to think of other ways that we can fight back. You know, just in case Cheryl says no."
Betty had known Cheryl since she'd came to Riverdale High, the girl had hated Betty since the moment she laid eyes on her, noting her innocence and kind nature, she'd mistaken it for weakness and ever since she has been nothing but a bully to Betty. Veronica gave her wrist a light touch with her free hand, trying to assure Betty she'd try her best to get Cheryl to help.
"Oh!" Veronica perked up, taking a quick sip of her latte and smiling at Betty, the blonde letting out a little breath of relief, she could see whatever Veronica was about to tell her was good this time. She couldn't handle another bad thing. "I was talking to Polly this morning, she doesn't know anything about this Blossom business so she's chirpy and she wants to see you...it's sort of like having you around, my mom certainly loves having her around."
Betty was proud Veronica and her mom had taken a liking to her sister, she didn't want them just tolerating her. Betty beamed, she'd been wanting to visit Polly for a while but she hadn't found the time and she wasn't sure if she wanted to see her.
"I'll come around after school. Wait for me?" Betty asked, cocking her head at her friend.
Veronica nodded she didn't understand why Betty asked, she knew she'd wait for her either way. The pair stood smiling at each other in comfortable silence for a couple of minutes, their hands curled around their warm drinks, trying to take up all the heat from them to keep themselves warm. Both of their smiles faltered at the sound of a chirpy voice calling Veronica.
"Veronica, darling. There you are!" Cheryl exclaimed stopping between the pair. Betty lifted her drink to her lips trying her best to ignore Cheryl's presence but it was harder than it sounded. Veronica plastered a smile on her lips, looking at Cheryl.
"Well, here I am." Veronica told her, Cheryl gave her a look as if to say obviously, then turned to look at Betty who just stood minding her business as she studied her shoes. Cheryl followed Betty's gaze to her shoes and scowled in disgust.
"Yes, I think you should get some new shoes too. Honestly Betty, I wonder who dresses you."
Betty's grip tightened around her cup, she knew it was moments before she broke the cup and she spilt coffee all down her. She opened her mouth to say something, that probably wasn't going to affect the ginger but thankfully Veronica cut in.
"Hey. If you've came over here to piss off Betty, then I suggest you turn on your designer heels and walk back to your minions," Veronica retorted, taking a threatening step closer to the redhead. Cheryl huffed, forgetting she couldn't be cruel to Betty around Veronica. Cheryl honestly didn't understand Veronica's attachment to the blonde but she didn't argue. "Now, what did you want Cheryl?"
"Right. I came to invite you to my slumber party, the pussycats will be staying as well as what you call my minions. I was just wondering if you wanted to come along too." Cheryl finally announced, going back to blanking Betty out and focusing on the raven-haired girl, who stood arms still folded, one hand grasping her coffee.
Veronica saw Betty tense from the corner of her eye, clearly not liking the invite. Veronica wasn't an idiot she knew Betty hated when she hung around with Cheryl, she'd confessed once that she hated her going around Cheryl's for sleepovers when she'd never even had Veronica stay around her place. All because of her mother disliked the brunette.
"Sounds like it could be fun," Veronica began, Cheryl opened her mouth to reply with a smile, but Veronica hadn't finished. "But I'm staying around Betty's."
"You are?" The two girls spoke in unison, both glaring at one another then at Veronica. Veronica linked her arm through Betty's and nodded with a small smile.
"But I haven't even told you what night it's going to be on." Cheryl said in disbelief that she was getting turned down for the prissy blonde. The redhead tossed her hair over her shoulder, she wasn't exactly mad, just shocked someone dared to say no.
"Well...whatever night it is, I'll be over Betty's." Veronica shrugged, giving Cheryl one last smile then she walked around the girl and headed up to the building. Betty smiled bigger than she had in a while, thrilled Veronica had chosen to stay with her. "So, I'll bring the popcorn and we can have a movie night, deal?"
"Deal." Betty agreed, getting excited at the idea of Veronica finally coming over. "But my mom would never allow you to stay over. She already thinks I spend an unusual amount of time with you."
Betty wasn't sure why but she felt her cheeks warm, she thought for a moment Veronica's did too.
"Well, you do spend an unusual amount of time with me. Just tell her I'm coming around, she can't control you remember, besides if she does the extreme thing and kicks us both out then we can just go back to mine." Veronica shrugged, she had the plan set out in her head already as though she'd been planning this for weeks.
