Veronica wasn't exactly sure how long her mother and Polly were gone, but she didn't move, she didn't want to disrupt her girlfriend whilst she slept. Veronica could tell that the blonde needed some sleep, who knows how long it's been since she'd actually slept well. Even though she knew it wasn't exactly her place to say, she wasn't going to let Betty go back home, at least not until she's happy and healthy again, her mother only made it worse and all of this extra stress put on her wasn't good for any of them. This year had been tough on them, on Betty especially. Veronica brushed a loose strand of Betty's beach blonde locks behind her ear, smiling gently down at her. She wondered how she managed to be so lucky as to know Betty, she brought something into Veronica's life that no other had, she was the hope that kept her strong when she read all of the cruel comments kids write about her on social media.
Betty was someone that was always there for her and Veronica was going to make sure that she was there for Betty, she wasn't going to let her go through this alone. The thought of Betty ever trying to harm herself scared the shit out of Veronica. She was never really that strong but somehow she managed to lift Betty, stifling her groan of struggle as she did. She couldn't just leave Betty to sleep on the couch listening to the soft pop music that Hermione had put on in the background to entertain her whilst she cooked. Something Veronica usually does so that she could sing along as she waited for whatever she was cooking to finish. Ronnie just about managed to lay Betty on her side of the bed, wincing as she groaned shuffling slightly as Veronica lifted the covers over her shoulder.
"V?" Betty's voice was strained from crying, the small voice making Veronica sit carefully on the edge of the bed, running her hand up and down Betty's arm to trying and assure her that she was alright.
"Go back to sleep, B. We can talk in the morning over some nice hot chocolate, how does that sound?" Veronica asked in a whisper, leaning towards the girl to see if she was listening. Betty's eyes were shut but somehow Veronica could just tell she was listening, she let out a long hum in agreement, putting a little smile on Veronica's face.
"I love you, Veronica." Betty mumbled, sleep slurring her words. Veronica leaned down to press a lingering kiss to Betty's cheek then moving to Betty's ear.
"I love you more." Veronica said, grinning when she noticed Betty's mouth twitch into a smile. Veronica startled when she heard the thump of the front door, eyes shooting back down to Betty to make sure she didn't react badly to the sound of the door. But by the looks of it, Betty had fallen back to sleep with a light snore.
Ronnie slipped off the bed and out of her room, closing the door lightly behind her to muffle her voice as she went to see Polly and her mother who'd walked in, in mid-conversation with one another, Veronica couldn't help but notice the angry atmosphere radiating off of them. They shut up when Veronica stepped into view, waiting for the confirmation that they'd got Betty's medicine. Polly glanced over Veronica's shoulder half expecting her to come up behind the petite brunette but Veronica spoke.
"Betty fell asleep so I put her in my bed so she was comfortable," Veronica announced, settling Polly's worries. "Did you manage to find what Betty needs?"
Polly side glanced Hermione who looked directly at the floor. "No, they claimed they couldn't just prescribe a drug, at least not without Betty there."
"I'm going to take her tomorrow." Hermione decided. "I'll call into the school and tell them that she was sick overnight and she'll have the day off."
"But don't you have to be Mrs Cooper to be able to do that?" Veronica asked, eyebrows furrowed. Hermione shook her head.
"Not if I say she spent the night around ours, which she did."
Veronica stood straight as she prepared to make a decision. "Then I'm coming with you, Betty isn't doing this alone. She might have to explain what happened to the other pills and what if she breaks down like earlier?"
Hermione sighed, stepping forward so she could place a hand on Ronnie's arm. "Betty is strong, she doesn't need you by her side twenty-four seven, Ronnie. Plus I'll be there."
"That isn't the same and you know it." Veronica sighed, folding her arms across her chest as she shook her head in disagreement. Polly had moved to clear the table at some point, figuring she'd leave them to their argument. "I...I just told her I'll be right there when she needs me, mum. And I meant it."
"Ronnie...you can't both have the day off of school. It will look suspicious, I'm sure Betty doesn't want to have to deal with the school nagging on at her too...so just...please let me do this." Hermione reasoned, she knew how stubborn Veronica was but she also knew how much her daughter cared for Betty. Veronica glanced over her shoulder to down the hall where her bedroom was and sighed. "Good girl."
Veronica's eyes flickered back to her mothers. "But I swear mum, if she messages or calls about wanting me at her side, I will walk right out of those school gates and head straight over."
Hermione held her hands up in surrender, giving her a curt nod. "That sounds fair enough."
Veronica paused, she knew that her mother would probably order Betty to not disrupt her during her lessons so she continued. "Promise me if things get...dark," Her mind flashed back to the Chuck incident. "You'll call me."
Hermione hesitated, but she knew if she didn't promise Veronica would just skip school as a whole so she nodded. "I promise, mija."
