Betty sat on her bed her feet kicking the air gently, humming quietly to the music she'd put on in the background as she studied for the exam tomorrow. Betty had always spent at least an hour a day studying, she had to, her mother watched her like a hawk checking in every ten minutes to check how her studying was going. But this time Veronica was leaned against the end of her bed painting her nails with her usual dark purple nail varnish, Betty had told her she didn't have to stick around whilst she studied but Veronica insisted on staying.
"How much longer have we got?" She spoke up, Betty stopped humming and clicked the power button on her phone, checking the time and wincing.
"About twenty minutes...sorry, V." Betty apologized, she expected the brunette to give up and leave but she just dropped down on the bed beside her, giving her a smirk edging closer. Betty felt her heartbeat picking up as she felt her breath tingle on her neck.
"How about we cut studying short?" Veronica muttered flirtatiously, Betty's cheeks warmed and she turned to Veronica giving her a small smile, she wanted to say yes, she yearned to say she'll cut it shot but she knew her mother was sat downstairs, she knew she'd come upstairs to check on her until the hours up. Veronica leaned forward her lips brushing over Betty's. It took all of Betty's might to not lean into her to and give in but she shuffled and sighed.
"I wish I could V. I really do. But my mum has came in six times already and no doubt she'll come in and she...she still doesn't know about me and you."
Veronica groaned, dropping her head in the blanket and letting out and exasperated sigh before emerging and meeting Betty's sorry sparkling eyes, she knew she couldn't stay mad at the blonde but that didn't mean she wasn't annoyed.
"You still haven't told her? Come on Betts, you've got to tell her sooner or later." Ronnie told her, placing a hand over Betty's hand, her thumb stroking the back of Betty's hand.
"I know, I know but my mum isn't as supportive as your mother, she'll most likely throw me out." Betty worried, focusing on their hands. Hermione didn't even seem surprised when Veronica told her that her and Betty were dating, she just beamed and cooked them Veronica's favourite meal to celebrate. Betty only prayed that her mother was accepting, she didn't need her bake anything or even smile about it, she just needed her to be cool about it.
"B, my mum told me she already knew that we were going to get together." Veronica laughed lightly, making the blonde's ponytail swish as she snapped her head in Veronica's direction looking at her with wide eyes.
"What?"
"She said she'd seen best friends and that no best friends were as touchy and close as we were, so she put two and two together and she knew we'd end up becoming more than friends," Veronica smirked, stealing a quick peck on Betty's lips before hauling herself off of Betty's bed and rummaged through Betty's draws.
"What are you looking for?" Betty asked cocking her head to a side, watching as her girlfriend searching through her draws, carefully not to scratch the wet paint on her nails so mostly using her elbows to move things around. Betty stifled her laugh as she watched the brunette who frowned over at her, her hands in the air like she was surrendering to something.
"Your hairdryer, this nail polish is taking decades to dry." Veronica grumbled, giving up and waiting for Betty to come and find it. The blonde slid off of her bed and padded over a smirk plastered on her face as she reached into the draw beside the one Veronica had been searching through and pulled out her pink hairdryer. Veronica smiled at her gratefully and grinned at how it was pink, like most things in Betty's room.
"Don't judge, I like pink, besides I couldn't have a different colour even if I wanted. My mother prefers me liking girly colours." Betty sighed as she plugged in the hairdryer and held it out to Veronica who took it, leaning forward and planting a kiss on Betty's cheek.
"Damn B, your mum really has control over you, if it were me I'd go on a bender like I do when me and my mum argue over something. She always gives in and I get what I want." Veronica shrugged, almost jumping into Betty's desk when she found Alice stood with a scowl on her face glaring over at Veronica. "Oh, hey Mrs Cooper. Didn't see you there."
"Miss Lodge, If you have opinions on me and how I interact with my family I suggest you go to your own home and stay there rather than coming to my home and complaining about me," Mrs Cooper spoke sternly, Veronica could see she was keeping her calm-she was doing the hand clutching thing that Betty did. Alice blocked Veronica out and looked at her daughter who lowered her eyes to the floor under her mothers glare. "Elizabeth, if you even think of listening to her then I will revoke your phone privileges as well as making sure you don't spend anymore time under Veronica's influence, understand?"
Betty glanced over at Veronica then to her mother and nodded. "Understood."
Alice seemed satisfied by the answer and nodded her head proudly, then looked back at Veronica who stood awkwardly hairdryer still in hand. "I'd prefer it if you went home now, Veronica. Inform Polly that we'd like to see her please."
"Of course, but uh," Veronica glanced down at her still wet nails and the hairdryer and back up to Alice. "Do you think I could finish drying my nails first?"
Alice looked like she could drag Veronica out of her house and Betty was trying to warn Veronica not to annoy her mother too much, knowing that she had a temper like Betty. But when she looked at Veronica she realised the girl was being genuine and she had to hold back a grin.
"Fine, five minutes, then I expect to see you out of the door." With that Alice turned and walked out in a huff. Veronica let out a quiet laugh when she was sure Alice was too far to hear it. Betty slapped Veronica's arm gently her mouth hanging open.
"Be careful V. She looked like she was going to blow up," Betty hissed, "No kidding, she threw a brick through The Registers window just to get back at my dad for throwing her out of the newspaper."
Veronica's eyes bugged out like Betty had just told her they were selling designer heels for free down at the store. "Oh my god..." Veronica gasped, "You really do get your temper from her!"
Veronica started up the hair dryer, hovering it over her left hand, watching the shiny polish solidify and dry then switching hands. Once they were dry she flicked off the switch and put away the hairdryer. Betty had leaned against her desk, waiting for Veronica to finish, she didn't want her to leave but she knew her mother would bite her head off if she even mentioned Veronica staying around a little longer. Veronica saw her gloom look and took hold of both of Betty's hands, giving them a gentle squeeze as the blonde's blue eyes met Veronica's dark ones.
"Don't look so sad, it's not like your never going to see me again, I'm just going home." Veronica smirked, she couldn't admit it but she liked Betty being upset about her having to go, Betty sighed, nodding.
"I know. I just...I miss your company, it's not like I can talk to my mum the way I talk to you. I wish Polly would just come home..."
"Hey..." Veronica said, letting go of one of Betty's hand and cupping her chin making her look at her. "I'll speak to her...see if I can persuade her to come home. I know she misses you too, I've even heard her talking to the kids in her stomach about you...which was kind of weird but it means she misses you too."
Betty's eyes teared up and held Veronica's hand tighter, "I love you." Betty smiled, kissing her for as long as she could before her mother came up trying to shoo Veronica out of the room. Veronica smiled into the kissed, glad to finally have Betty's attention, she came up for air and rested her forehead against Betty's.
"I love you too, B. Now, as much as I would love to continue this...I'd best get going before your mother comes up here with her fancy hair and posh words and tries to shoo me out forcefully." Veronica smirked, stepping away from Betty missing the contact. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"I'll see you tomorrow." Betty called, watching Veronica as she gathered up her jacket, folding it over her arm and blew her a kiss before leaving her room and heading downstairs to the door. Betty smirked as Veronica called a snarky goodbye to her mum and she heard her mum grumble a grumpy reply.
