Five Years Later

Betty felt her body release all stresses overwhelming her, as she leant back in her seat, fingers drumming along the steering wheel to the soft tune of 'Safe With You' By Delaney Jane. The lack of sleep had been taking its toll on her these past few days, the sickness that cradled in her stomach causing her to be up at all hours. The blonde closed her eyes, basking in the heat that radiated through the window. It was the light tap on the glass that awoke her from what was a short-lived nap. The ocean glow of her blue eyes, finding the brunette of whom had held her heart for five years.

Betty quickly wound the window down, a smile stretching across her plump pink lips as Veronica strolled to the passenger side of their car. The girl slipped into her seat with ease, placing her backpack stuffed with business associated books onto the floor between her. Betty reached across, brushing Veronica's long hair over her shoulder, ensuring it didn't fall in her way, earning a grateful smile from her girlfriend.

"How were your classes?" Betty piped up, readying herself to drive them home.

"The usual, sometimes I wonder why I didn't study fashion instead," Veronica grumbled, riddled with stress from the upcoming tests that will soon be thrown her way. "Scratch that, I thought I told you I would meet you at the house. You know you're supposed to be relaxing, right?"

Betty rolled her blue eyes, she'd heard that more times than she could count in the past handful of months.

"I enjoy picking you up, besides, saves you the cab fare and keeps me from going insane at home." The girl retorted, the car roaring to life as she pulled out of the campus parking lot.

Over the past few years, the pair had been involved in more dramas than they'd like to admit. From the haunting memories of her father slaughtering people whom he felt were guilty, then the traumatic actions of the farm. At one point, she thought she and Veronica would never find happiness...never be free from the town of continuous murders.

But looking at them now, they'd bought their own home at the age of nineteen, with help from Veronica's parents. The brunette had gotten into the college she'd been longing to get in - University of Michigan - Veronica's first investment earnt Betty her position in their new business as one of the city's finest editors. There wasn't one second where Betty longed to return to the town that held so much pain. Thankfully Alice hadn't decided to stay either, the woman quickly finding a reporter job in New York.

Betty smiled softly as she felt Veronica's hand settle on her thigh, the girl struggling to keep her focus on the road. As they pulled up to a stop sign, Betty's blue eyes fluttered to the rear view mirror, a twitch of a smile tugging at her lips as she looked at the small seat strapped to the back. The sight released a burst of butterflies in her chest, her girlfriend's voice broke off her trail of thoughts.

"What time did Archie and Jughead say they were coming?"

"They were an hour away the last time I spoke to them," The blonde informed her, "We should have half an hour to be ready, most of the food is already done."

"You're truly something, Betty Cooper. You know I could've called in sick today to help, if you weren't so stubborn."

The blonde shook her head, turning a corner to the street they called home. Their home wasn't some chic modern mansion, the pair had decided against being one of those people. They didn't want to splash cash where it wasn't needed, all they'd wanted was a simple suburban four bedroom home. The neighbours were friendly enough, saying kind hello's when they crossed paths, they'd been given more cooked food after they'd moved in than they'd ever received before. As Betty pulled into the driveway, eyes narrowing as she noted a familiar truck in their drive.
