Sophia was a lot calmer now, and I was thankful. She had nothing to be worried about. Her wedding would be perfect, the best Hamilteam wedding yet!
The next day, I woke up, eager to help her start planning. Yes, it was stressful, but it was fun, not to mention we got some high quality best friend time.
She was an early riser, but I couldn't find her anywhere. I tried texting her, summoning her, calling her, but nothing worked. Half an hour later, Gabe showed up. He looked weary.
"Gabe!" I called. A little irritated sigh escaped from his mouth as he turned around, which I tried to ignore.
"Yes?"
"Have you seen Sofa? She hasn't been around."
"Can't say that I have." He turned to leave.
"Wait!"
"What, Anji?"
"Do you know where she is?" I asked.
"No! Just because we're going to get married doesn't mean we're joined at the hip!"
"That's not what I'm say-"
"Would you just shut up?!" Gabe thrust his hand out, and flames erupted in between us, nearly scorching my toes. I yelped and jumped backwards.
The kitchen door flew open, and out jumped Elijah. "Anji!" He ran over. Mary followed him, frosting in her hair. She had been working on the cake.
Elijah put his hand on my shoulder and looked at Gabe, dead in the eye. "What seems to be the problem here, Gabriel?"
"Nothing, kiddo. Simple disagreement."
"You almost set my girlfriend on fire."
"Yeah? And?"
"That doesn't seem to be like a 'simple disagreement' to me."
Elijah's voice was fiery and full of rage, yet it had never sounded so icy cold.
Mary had been watching the scene, her eyes narrowed. Suddenly, she jumped, as if she had just realized the fire was there, and extinguished it.
After a long silence, Gabe turned and left.
We all watched him go. Then, Elijah turned towards me.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah... I'm fine." I said, sounding distant, still lost in thought.
"Anji! Your toe!" Mary pointed. My big toe was in fact, steaming.
I squeaked. How had I not noticed that until now? I put my hand on it, soothing the burn. "Thank you."
She nodded.
"Gabe's going to pay." Elijah snarled.
I shook my head. "You know, something tells me this isn't the Gabe we're all used to."
Chloe and Harry walked in. "Hey guys, have you seen Sofa or Gabe?" Chloe asked, a bounce in her step.
Mary, E and I all exchanged looks. "You might want to hear what just happened..." I began.
