A Cliché Ending, But a Good One All the Same

After dancing for an hour, I decided to see if there was any left over cake. I passed Lucas, who was showing off his teleportation powers to a couple of girls our age on Gabe's side of the family.

"Do you think you could teleport to heaven, Lucas?" Asked a cute blond girl with bright blue eyes.

Lucas laughed. "I'll try my best."

This threw the group of girls into a large giggle fest. I smiled at Lucas and moved on.

Sherlock and Mary were currently having a dance competition while Lydia and Chuck watched. However, it seemed more like a "Who can almost knock this expensive decoration over first" competition. Since this was very unlike Sherlock, I assumed he had actually lightened up and had a few drinks.

Chloe and Harry stood in a corner, pointing at people and laughing. Perhaps they were pranking them, or silently judging. Either way, as long as they didn't cause too much damage, I was glad they were having fun. We waved at each other as I walked by.

Sophia and Gabe were thanking guests, and Gabe would stuff the occasional cupcake in his mouth when he thought nobody was looking. This would result in Sophia smacking him upside the head, and Gabe trying to look innocent, hiding his frosting covered hands behind is back. I chuckled. Some things never change, and nor were they supposed to.

I located Elijah standing off to the side, taking in the whole scene.

"What are you doing all the way out here?" I asked him.

"I don't dance." He explained.

"That's not what you said last year. Remember that dance move you made up? 'The Elijah'?"

"Yes, and it should die."

"No no, it was cute. Wasn't it something like this?" I jumped left and right.

"No, it was like this." He hopped to the left, hopped to the right, and waved his arms near his shoulders.

I laughed and joined him. Soon, a slow song started playing. I saw Gabe wipe his hands on a napkin and spin Sophia around. Sherlock and Mary had come together and were swaying to the beat. Harry and Chloe left their wallflower positions and began to dance. Lucas was dancing with three girls at once.

"I suppose I should end the chapter on a cheesy note, reflecting on the story while I think about how happy I am to be dancing with you?" I asked.

"What?"

"Nothing, just breaking the fourth wall."

"Um.. okay. Well, would you like to dance?"

I smiled. "I'd be happy to."

He pulled me close, and I could feel his heartbeat against mine. With every beat, I thought about how grateful I was to have managed to live through another adventure and come out as a whole. I buried my face in his neck. We would all face another trial another day, but for now we got to relax.

And eat cake. Plenty of cake.

"So, my best friend is married." I said the next day. Sophia and Gabe were moving into their new home, up in heaven. They would still live in the mansion with us, but like the Holmes', they'd have another home. They had finished putting in furniture yesterday, and we were all incredibly pleased. Thanks to magic, the job was done quickly, but was fun. Even when Lydia turned the couch into a pile of mashed potatoes, only to be fixed by Mary.

Sophia hugged me. "Thank you for a wonderful wedding. I haven't partied that hard since... I don't even know when."

I laughed and hugged her back. "Don't be gone for too long, okay?"

"Oh are you kidding me? I could never last without all of you. Thank you all for saving us. Even you, Chloe."

Chloe beamed.

"Bye!" We all yelled after them, waving as they flew into the bright afternoon sun.

"So, anyone wanna help me plot some pranks for when she gets back?"

In unison, we all yelled; "Chloe!"

Some things never change. Some things weren't meant to.
