"What just happened?!" Lucas yelled.
"Micheal, Gabe's older brother, has been fooling us for a while." Mary scowled in the direction of where he had just been.
"Micheal and Gabe always got along. What is he up to?" Chloe questioned.
"At least we have a productive lead." I say. "From here we can- OW!"
I hunched over and clutched my head. In seconds, my friends were around me, asking if I was okay. I felt a pair of strong hands pull me upwards, but my eyes were clenched shut.
"Anji." Elijah said. His voice was urgent and panicked. "I'm taking you to the sick room."
I hardly heard him. Instead, Sophia's voice rang through my head. It was there then it was gone, like a whisper.
"Sophia-" I whispered.
I felt the hands dragging me away. "No." I protested. "Don't."
"Clearly you need to sit down." Mary urged.
She wanted me to sit down? Fine. I say down, right there on the floor. Elijah sat next to me, not letting go of my shoulder. "Not here, Anji." He said. "Come with me, please." His voice was softer now.
"I saw her again. I can't break concentration." I mutter.
"What?" Lucas asked.
Elijah repeated my words.
"Can you tell where she is?" Chloe asked, voice urgent.
"Give her a minute." Elijah removed his hand, but I grabbed it. "No, don't let go." I request. His hand was the one thing that kept me from feeling as if I was slipping into insanity.
"Anji! Can you hear me?" Sophia's voice sounded choppy and fuzzy, as if I was talking to her on the phone in a tunnel, but yes, I could hear her.
"Yes." I say back. My voice is stronger now. "Where are you?"
"Detroit- Micheal- messed- link-"
I could only get bits and pieces, but I managed to make sense of what she was saying. She was in Detroit, and since Gabe was missing as well, I figured she was with him. Micheal had messed with our empathy link, making it hard and painful to use it- at least from my end. Apparently he made me forget I had one too, otherwise I know I would have thought to use it. If Micheal knew we had a link, what else did he know?"
"Hurry- Gabe- forget- AHHHHHH!"
She screamed, nearly splitting my eardrums, and the connection was lost. I fell over.
Once the black spots left my vision, I looked up. All of my friends looked at me as if in a trance, their mouths wide opens and their eyes unblinking.
"Yep, you're going. Come on." Elijah tried to haul me upwards. He looked pale, and I saw in the reflection of a glass, I did too.
"Detroit." I say.
"What?"
"She's in Detroit."
"How do you know?" Sherlock asked.
I realized Micheal must have wiped all of our memories of the empathy link. I explained what happened.
"That's why you sounded like you were talking to someone!" Lucas realized.
"I was talking out loud?"
"Not just out loud. You were really loud. It was concerning." Chloe crossed her arms. "What was the scream for?"
"I screamed?"
They nodded.
"That... that must have been when she screamed."
"She what?" Mary yelled.
Energy surged through my limbs. I jumped upwards, only feeling slightly dizzy in doing so.
"Pack your bags, Hamilteam. We're going to Detroit."
