Something to get used to

York was one of those places that you could easily get used to if you never lived there. It was a lot more lively than Nottingham which was almost as quiet as a grave. The people in York were very nice. Granted I was left without a place to stay or any food to eat, which confused me since Sarah had enough pounds on her to afford a place for me to lay low.

Just as I was about to take a bite, I saw a young girl standing in front of me. She seemed more hungry than I was. It was the same look I would normally give when I was hungry, but she looked like she needed the food more than I did. So I grabbed the only loaf of bread and three carrots that I had and offered them to her. Without thinking at all, she walked up to me and grabbed them to eat. I knew they were the only food I had left but she looked like she was starving half to death. I watched her as she ate and wondered how long it's been since the little girl had any food.

"Your not from around here are you?" she asked after taking a bite from one of the carrots.

I didn't ask her how she knew I wasn't from York. She most likely knows just about everyone in town just like I know just about everyone in Nottingham. I know she's not dumb so I wasn't about to lie to her.

"No I'm not from here." I answered.

She looked up at me surprised I didn't look shocked. And because of that she stopped eating.

"I assume you know just about everyone in York, and since no one has ever seen me it would only make sense that you clearly don't know who I am." I said.

"Fair point," the little girl said. "What's your name?"

"My name is Raelynn." I answered.

She didn't say anything for a while since she was eating. She slowed down after the second carrot but didn't eat the last one.

"I'm going to give this to my older sister I hope you don't mind." she finally said.

"Go ahead. I gave you the rest of my food for a reason. And please don't say anything, you looked like you needed it more than I did." I said.

I instantly became jealous when she said she had an older sister. I didn't say anything nor did I show how jealous I was.

"My name is Lila by the way. Sorry I didn't tell you earlier." Lila said.

"I always liked that name." I said as she smiled.

I wondered who her sister but I didn't want to seem nosey about it.

"Your name isn't common in general. It's pretty." Lila replied back.
