Ian's father wasn't much of a hunter anymore, but he did teach Ian how to hunt when he was younger. In the woods behind the cabin, his father's tree stand was safely attached to a tree with a ladder leading to the small enclosed platform.
With haste, Ian led his omega out to the tree stand, a blanket in one hand and the rifle in his other. He climbed the ladder first to make sure everything was safe and placed the blanket in the tree stand. He then climbed back down the ladder and ushered Ash into the stand. He was poking his head out through the small hole when Ian glanced back up at him again.
"Stay." Ian said, enforcing the command with his alpha voice. He heard Ash whimper and he wondered if it was the final time he would ever hear the omega. He tore his gaze away from the young omega he came to adore and slung the rifle over his shoulder. He hiked through the woods to find a good vantage point.
It didn't take long for him to find a spot hidden in front of the house where he could see the path of the long driveway and the entire house. All he could do was sit and wait.
The entire time he waited, all he could think about was his omega, sat in the tree stand, scared and upset. He didn't deserve that. Ash didn't deserve to be upset. He would give the enemy alphas and betas hell before he would let them anywhere near ash.
Despite the air slowly cooling as the moon rose, sweat trailed down the back of Ian's neck and gathered in his hairline. It was completely dark by the time the enemy arrived and Ian assumed it had to be around two in the morning. The pulled up in large trucks, covered in mud and rust. The headlights were aimed at the dark and empty cabin and we're left on as they all exited the two vehicles the had.
Ian snarled quietly when he saw the alpha from the other day, the very reason they were in this situation now.
Another alpha appeared behind him. Ian could tell he was the head alpha, walking with his chest puffed out from beneath his leather jacket. He hardly glanced at the five betas grouping behind him. He was examining the cabin with dark eyes.
"Ian Elys!!!" He roared at the cabin with a booming voice. "You have something of mine and I want it back!"
Ian ground his teeth together in anger and settled the rifle against his shoulder. He thumbed the safety pin so it was off and stared through the scope of the rifle. He focused the cross hairs on the main alpha.
"My name is Quinton!" The alpha grinned in the darkness. "I ran the omega farm until one of my bitches escaped and my farm was shut down. Word got to me that one of my prized possessions was in your hands. You have my favorite little bitch, Ashton."
Ian steadied his breathing and placed his finger on the trigger. Once he shot one of them, he would immediately have to move. They'll be able to track him easily due to his scent that is heightened due to his rut.
Ian trained the cross hairs on the second alpha, choosing to ignore Quinton for the moment. He wanted to get more close and personal with the alpha when he unleashes his anger.
"I know you have Ashton so you might as well come out while I'm generous. If not, I'll send my betas in and let them have their way with him while you watch."
Ian nearly cried out at the thought of his omega being hurt. He was just a Forensic Anthropologist who wanted to understand the psychology of an omega from a farm. He didn't know this would become such a mess. In that moment, he realized he wouldn't have done it any other way, because he had come to admire the young omega. They hadn't know each other for long, but the bond had already formed between the two and Ian was sure as hell going to protect Ash until his dying breath.
"Alright then, Ian! You asked for it!"
Before any of the betas could make a move toward the cabin, Ian pulled the trigger and watched Quinton's side alpha drop to the gravel driveway. He had been wanting to do that since the alpha threatened Ian and Ash in front of Ian's house.
Ian leaped from his prone position, hiked the rifle over his shoulder and ran.
