Kat’s POV

I grunted as I walked into the Spanish classroom. My teacher was known for having bizarre mood swings and I was not in the mood for his PMSing. I left Jeff at the door once I saw my seat in the far back. I sat down and took out my books. I looked up to see Jeff heading towards the teacher. Ha, I hope he was in a bad mood.

“Hey.” A deep voice said to my left. I grimaced a little bit and looked up at Garrett. “Hi” I said. He shuffled awkwardly before he sat down. “Uh… can I….uh…talk to you?” He asked, scratching the back of his neck. “We’re kind of talking right now aren’t we?” I attempted to lighten the mood. I had a feeling of what was coming next and I didn’t want to have to deal with it right now.

“Uhm, I was wondering….” He started. I shifted my gaze over to where Jeff was, he was heading towards me. He smirked and sat down right next to me. “I’m sorry what were you saying?” I asked Garrett.  He smiled a little. “I was just wondering if maybe you wanted to go out tonight, uh as like, a date?” He asked. I almost laughed at how nervous he was. “Yeah, maybe you and I could go out tonight…?” I heard Jeff say smoothly to a tall brunette cheerleader. I gritted my teeth as she laughed and nodded. I turned back to Garrett. “Yes.” I said. “Wait..Yes? Did you just say yes?” He asked astonished. I chuckled. “Yes Garrett. I said yes.” I smiled. “Okay, I’ll pick you up tonight at 8.” He said. “Okay.” I said as the bell rang.

Garrett spun around in his seat. I turned my head to look at Jeff. He looked angry. My eyebrows creased in confusion. Why was he angry? Suddenly, his eyes turned cold. Very cold. He turned his head away and looked at the brunette. He winked at her and she giggled. He was acting like an ass. That’s because he is an ass. My conscience countered. For some reason though, I had this nagging feeling, and my brain was telling me to figure out what was wrong. No, I will not do that. He’s a jerk; he doesn’t deserve your concern.

“Miss Thompson, would you mind answering my question, today?” Mr. Wetzel peered over his glasses.  “I’m sorry I didn’t catch the question.” I said. Jeff snorted from beside me. I turned to glare at him. “I said, what is the Spanish word for folders?” He said exasperated. “Oh, that would be unas carpetas.” I said. “Thank you Miss Thompson, oh and next time try not to day dream in my class.” He said. Yep definitely having another one of those mood swings. I rolled my eyes and went back to writing down the vocabulary.

I was almost done with the vocab when a balled up paper landed on my desk. I lifted my head and looked around the room to find the culprit. Everyone’s heads were down doing their work. I grabbed the paper ball and quietly began pulling it apart. Inside, in neat hand writing it said:

Want to go to the movies tonight?

                                                Xo, Riley

I sighed in relief to see that it was Riley. I was definitely going to hear about this one later though. I wrote back:

Can’t. I’m going out on a date with Garrett.

                                        Xo, Kat

I checked my surroundings before chucking it back to Riley’s desk. I really hoped my aim didn’t fail me this time. I watched as it landed exactly where I had planned. I smiled in triumph and turned back to my work, I had to pretend I was doing something just in case Mr. Wetzel decided to lookup from his phone, which wouldn’t happen, but just in case. A few minutes later, the paper ball landed on my desk again.

WHAT?! I thought you didn’t like him. I’m helping you get ready later. OMFG. YOU ARE GOING ON A DATE!!!!!

                                                XO, Riley

I rolled my eyes at her excitement. Riley was a total mush and always fell for the romantic stuff. I sighed and began writing back.

Yeah Yeah, I know. You can help me get ready and no, I do not like him. I’ll explain everything later I promise.

                                        Xo, Kat

I sighed and threw it back to Riley’s desk. She looked up after reading it and nodded, but also gave me a look that said ‘You’re damn right you’ll explain everything’. It was kind of the same thing as a ‘mom look’. I smiled and returned to my work.

I’m going on a date with a guy I don’t even like.

And I have a pain in my ass that’s now ignoring me for some unknown reason.

My life is so annoying.
