Kat’s POV
I sighed picking at my sandwich. It was Saturday afternoon and I needed to get dressed soon. I had about 2 hours before I needed to be at the Charity Ball. I took another bite before throwing out the little that was left. I trudged upstairs and hopped into the shower, deciding I needed to be clean.
A half an hour later I stepped into my steam-filled bathroom, wiping a clear spot onto the mirror. I dried my hair and curled it making it look somewhat presentable. I put my makeup on, staying light and clean, putting the finishing touches on my eyeliner. I sighed flicking the light off in the bathroom, making my way into my room. I closed the door and unzipped my dress bag, pulling the dress out.
Finally managing to zipper it, I stepped in front of my mirror. I had to admit, I looked good. I smiled, running my hands across the smooth fabric. “Kat, and you, uh, fix this.” I heard Axel yell trudging into my room. I spun around smiling. “You look pretty, little sis.” He smiled. I smirked, “You don’t look too bad either, except for the stain on your shirt.” I stated.
“What, no! You have got to be kidding me, I just washed the freaking thing!” Axel fumbled with his shirt. I chuckled, “Relax, I was just kidding.” He narrowed his eyes at me. “Not cool Kat, not cool.” He said. I smiled grabbing the tie out of his hand. “You’re terrible at this.” I stated. “No kidding, that’s why I came to get you.” He said in a ‘duh’ tone.
I chuckled, slapping him lightly in the face. “Where’s Rachel?” I raised a brow. “She’ll be here soon.” He stated simply. I smiled, “Good. Anyway, I’m gonna get going.” I said, grabbing my flats. “Not coming with us?” Axel asked. “No, I’m taking my own car. Giving you and Rachel some couple time.” I said gagging.
Axel narrowed his eyes, “Shut up Kat.” She said. I smirked, “Have fun.” I said making my way down the stairs and out the front door.
God, I forgot how annoying it was to wear a dress. I cursed, fumbling with my dress in an attempt to get into my car. I shut the door, turning the radio on and making my way to Lansing Hall.

I stepped out of my car, my dress falling back to its normal place. I made my way into the Hall, people chatting with other people. I sighed making my way over to the yearly signature book. I picked up the pen signing my name in neat, swirly letters. I stood again, trying to find anyone that I knew.
Everyone was hanging onto someone else, everyone paired in couples. I rolled my eyes, making my way over to the beverage table. “Alcohol…alcohol……alcohol…” I mumbled, trying to find something non-alcoholic. I finally found the soda at the back of the table, hidden in the corner.
I grabbed the bottle, pouring some into a cup. I stood in the corner, avoiding everyone. I turned my head at the sound of opening doors. I watched as Riley walked in, holding Chase’s hand. She was smiling, taking everything in, while Chase was smiling looking at Riley. They looked so in love.
Ugh, I hated it.
Don’t get me wrong I was happy for them, they just looked so happy. It was nauseating. Riley made eye contact with me, and pulled Chase over to me. “You look stunning.” I smiled. “Thanks, you look gorgeous!” I stated. She smiled, glowing. “Hi Chase.” I said acknowledging his presence.
He smiled, “Hey Kat.” The doors opened again, and I turned my head. This time it was Axel and Rachel. Rachel looked absolutely gorgeous and Axel was smiling, showing off his dimples. They said ‘hello’ to a couple of people, before making their was over to us.
“Hey Guys!” I smiled. “Hey!” Rachel said overly excited. I stood off to the side as Riley and Rachel got into a conversation and Axel and Chase began talking about sports. “Would all attendees begin making their way into the reception room, please.” The male voice said over the loud speaker.
“You guys go,” I said, “I forgot something in my car, I’ll be right in.” I smiled. They nodded and made their way through the hall. I sighed scratching my head. Everything was quiet until the doors opened. I looked up to see Jeff walking into the hall. My eyes widened, he looked good. Like, really good. His eyes met mine and he smiled, walking over to me.
“Hey.” He said giving me his boyish smile, showing off his perfect teeth. I smiled, “Hey.” There was a quick silence before I asked the question I had been dying to hear the answer to. “Where’s your date?” I faked innocence. He shrugged, running his hand through his hair. “Don’t have one.” He said simply. “Where’s yours?” he asked.
I sighed. “Don’t have one.” I said repeating his words. “What?” he looked at me with disbelief. I shrugged. “I don’t have one.” I looked down at my feet. “How though? You look absolutely gorgeous.” He stated. I blushed. “Thanks, you don’t look too bad yourself.” I said grabbing his tie. He smirked. “Babe, I always look good.” I rolled my eyes.
“Oh, you’re so modest.” I said sarcastically. He grabbed my hips, tugging me closer. “Eh, I try.” He said, burying his head in the crook of my neck. I placed my hands on his chest, as he wrapped his arms around my waist. We just stayed there like that for a couple of minutes.
He lifted his head. “So, I heard it was like a sin to go in there without a date.” He nodded his head towards the door of the room. I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, they give you these disapproving eyes.” I chuckled. “Well,” he said grabbing my hand. “How about, we go in together.” He smiled.
I squeezed his hand, “Sure.” I smiled, tugging him towards the door. I pushed the door open, all heads turning towards us. They even put the spotlight on us. I spotted Riley sitting at the table, she smirked and winked at me, mouthing ‘you get him girl’. I reminded myself to slap her later.
“Are you guys waiting for a show?” Jeff raised his brow, an amusing smile on his face. “KISS HER!” I heard Riley shout from the table. My eyes widened as more people began to chant ‘KISS HER! KISS HER!” Jeff chuckled before pulling me towards him by the hips and winking at me before kissing me. I slung my arms around his neck as he tightened his grip on my waist.
My heart was thudding in my chest as I heard people ‘Woo-ing’ and letting out whistles. Jeff pulled back, resting his forehead on mine, smiling at me, before pulling away and smiling at the crowd. They all cheered as I covered my face with my hands, trying to hide my blush. Jeff laid his hand on my lower back, leading me through the tables to find ours.
He pulled the chair out for me before sitting down. “How you doing Kat? You look a little flustered.” Riley teased. I shook my head, “I’m fine.” I said. Riley winked at me before going back to her conversation with Chase. I took a deep breath. Jeff still hadn’t let go of my hand and I don’t know if he realized it or not, but he kept rubbing small circles on the back of my hand with his thumb and it was making it really hard to concentrate.
