Kat’s POV
I was seriously going to tell him.
Mind, you are an absolute idiot.
I took in a deep breath. “I’ll tell you, but can we at least go somewhere else? Its dirty back here.” I said. “Yeah sure.” He answered. “I’ll go grab my bag and tell Garrett and Rachel that we’re leaving.” I said. He nodded.
I made my way back into the diner and over to our table. “Hey Guys?” I asked. They continued their conversation. “Hi friends, yeah.” I said snapping in front of their faces. “What?” Rachel said. “Jeff and I are leaving, you guys seem to be having a good time, so we’re going to head out.” I said swinging my bag over my shoulder. “Oh here let me give you my number.” Rachel said as we exchanged phones. “There.” She said giving it back. I smiled at them and made my way to the door again.
I was walking head-down when I suddenly felt something wet and cold drip all over my front side. “Dear lord.” I said aggravated, hey this was a nice shirt. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I didn’t even see you” said a deep voice. A familiar deep voice. My breathing stopped.
In front of me stood the person I never wanted to see again.
Ace.
“Hey, girl, are you okay?” he asked. I kept my head down and nodded not trusting my voice. I didn’t want to look up. He might recognize me. I tried pushing past him, but he grabbed my forearm. “Why don’t I get your number, maybe we could hang out sometime.” He said. Yep, back into player mode. Then I did something I never thought I would get the chance to do.
I slapped him.
Right across the face. “What the hell?!” he shouted. Thankfully, people eating could care less about what just happened, so no one was paying attention. “You deserve it!” I shouted back. Then I bit my tongue.
Now he definitely recognizes you. Idiot.
Shut up mind.
He stared into my eyes, I was now holding my head way higher with so much confidence you’d think I just won the Olympics. “Hello Kat.” He snarled. “Nice to see you too.” I said sarcastically. “How’s life been treating you, hm?” he asked.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “My life’s good, especially since you’re not in it.” I stated. His jaw clenched. “What? Miss me?” I asked smirking. He smiled not a good smile, an evil smile. “Not at all, I have Kelsey.” He said. That was a blow to the stomach. “Well, as much as I would just love to stay and chat,” I said sweetly, “Jeff is waiting for me outside.” He tensed. “Who’s Jeff?” he asked. I raised a brow. “None of your business.” I said. “Kat,” he started, but I cut him off, “Bye Ace, it was terrible seeing you, I hope I never see you again.” I said and strutted out the door.
Making sure that I swung my hips.
I made my way over to where Jeff was standing. “What took you so long and why is your shirt all wet?” he raised his eyebrows. “It’s a long story.” I stated. “I’ve got time.” he shrugged his shoulders.
Now I was finally telling him.
“Okay, well it all started at that party you hosted last summer,” I began, “Riley kept begging me to go, I really didn’t want to, but she’s my best friend. You should’ve seen her face when I said yes.” I smiled at the memory. “We went to the party; there was a crap-load of people there. We went inside, and long story short, I met a guy. His name’s Ace. We started dating and everything, but there was always someone that would warn me about him. They’d say things like ‘oh he’s a player and a flirt, you’re going to get your heart broken’ stuff like that.” I took in a deep breath. “They were right. He cheated on me with a girl named Kelsey.” I sighed. “What took me so long back there? I ran into Ace. He accidentally spilled his drink on me, I slapped him, and we conversed. You know, details.” I said.
“So let me get this straight, you met a guy at my party last summer, you dated for a while, he cheated on you like the scum that he is, you just ran into him, he spilled his drink on you and you talked.” He said. “Did I miss anything?” I nodded. “I slapped him too.” I said. He smiled and started laughing. “Yeah I kind of wish I was there to see that.” He smiled.
I frowned slightly, “Jeff, please don’t tell anyone this, it makes me seem weak and vulnerable. I don’t like seeming weak and vulnerable, it’s not in my nature.” I said. He looked at me, and then slung his arm around my shoulders. “Don’t worry, your secrets safe with me.” He said planting a kiss on the top of my head. I tried to ignore the butterflies that erupted in my stomach.
You like him.
Shut up mind.
“Where are we going?” I asked as we continued walking.
“It’s a surprise.” He stated.
