Kat’s POV
My eyes went wide. I was going on a double date with Jeff. I was going on a double date, with Jeff!! WHAT!?! The jerk just sat there smirking. I glared at him when suddenly I was interrupted. “Hi, my name is Rachel.” The brunette stuck her hand out. Wow, I guess she did have a brain. “Hi, I’m Kat.” I told her. She smiled and looked back down.
I turned to Garrett. “Where are we going to eat?” I asked. To be honest I wasn’t mad at Garrett. I wasn’t even mad at Rachel. She actually seemed nice, and not fake. “Uh, I was thinking maybe the diner on the other side of town.” He said. “Okay, sounds good.” I said and hopped into the truck. I buckled my seatbelt as Garrett started the truck. I was looking through my phone when suddenly I got a kick to the back of my seat. I knew it was Jeff; so I ignored him. Three kicks to the back of my seat later, I heard, “Jeff! Leave the poor girl alone!” Rachel whisper-yelled. I smiled. We might be able to be friends. I turned around in my seat and smiled at her. She winked and went back to looking at her phone.
When we got to the diner, Garrett came around and opened my door for me. I thanked him and stepped out. I saw Jeff get out of the car and make his way into the diner, leaving Rachel to fend for herself. She rolled her eyes as she walked around the truck, and we began a conversation about music. I was right; she was pretty cool. Stepping into the diner, we saw Jeff already at a table set for four. We sat down and ordered our drinks. “So Kat, do you watch YouTube?” Rachel asked. My ears perked up. One of my favorite things was YouTube. “Yes! Who’s your favorite?” I asked her. She smiled. “I don’t really have a favorite. Who’s your favorite?” She said. “I like a lot of them,” I said “but, I really like Tobuscus, Shane Dawson, and Jacksfilms. They’re some of my favorites.” I explained. The boys looked completely bored by this conversation.
“So, Rachel, you’re a cheerleader?” Garrett asked her. She directed her attention to him. “Yeah.” She smiled. “You play football, right? What number are you?” she asked him. “Yep, I’m number 36.” He said proudly. I smiled at them. They would be cute together. I looked at Jeff to see him staring at me. “What?” I raised a brow. “Do I have something on my face?” I subconsciously touched my cheek. He cracked a smile. “No,” he chuckled, “you don’t have anything on your face.” “Oh.” I breathed.
He leaned over the table so he was inches away from my face. My breath hitched in my throat. He looked like he was going to kiss me. But was he seriously going to kiss me while we’re on a double date with other people? “Why are you,” he pointed to me, “on a date with him.” He pointed to Garrett. He went back to his original position. “Why is she,” I pointed to Rachel, “on a date with you?” I shot back. Rachel was pretty, nice and actually super sweet and fun. Complete opposites of Jeff.
Well except for the handsome part.
Shut up mind.
He smirked at me. “Because sweetheart, I’m gorgeous.” He “flipped his hair” over his shoulder. I chuckled. “You know,” I began, “that’s very convincing, maybe a little too convincing.” I said. He narrowed his eyes at me. “I’m not gay.” He stated. “What, you have a problem with gay people.” I said. I was absolutely going to hate him if he said yes. He raised his hands in surrender. “No, not at all. I know some, I was simply stating that I was not gay.” He said.
“Good. I was going to hate you more for a second there.” I chuckled at an attempt to lighten the mood. He frowned and stood up. He grabbed my hand and pulled me through the diner, opening the door and bringing me around the back. He cornered me so I was trapped between a wall, and his arms. I looked at his eyes, they didn’t look scary though, they looked hurt.
“Why do you hate me so much?” he asked. My breathing stopped. The amount of disappointment in his voice was astonishing. “W-what?” I stammered. “Why do you hate me so much?” he repeated. “I don’t hate you.” I said, “I don’t hate you.” He looked me in the eyes and leaned in. I closed my eyes. “Then why do you act like it?” he asked me, his lips by my ear. “You are a player Jeff.” I said a lot more confidently than I thought I would. “Nothing personal, but I do my best to stay away from people like you.” I stated. “From experience.” I muttered under my breath quietly. Apparently not quiet enough.
Jeff lifted his head. “Experience?” he asked. My eyes widened. “Nothing.” I said quickly. “Kat,” he said, “tell me.” He said softly. This was it. I was going to tell him.
