Kat’s POV
Of course.
It just had to be today. Honestly, I was already not having a good day, and the fact that Ace is standing behind me is not making it any better. I sighed, turning around. “Hi Ace.” I said through gritted teeth.
“How you doin’, Kat-a-rooooooo!” he sang happily. I raised a brow, he was clearly drunk. “Ace, you are drunk, you should probably go find Kelsey.” I stated coldly. “Nah,” he shook his head, “I don’t wanna. I wanna hang with you, Katty!” he laughed.
Oh my god this is not happening.
I grabbed the beer from his hand. “Ace, drink some water.” I handed him a small cup and turned to walk away. “Kat! Katty!!!” I heard him calling behind me. I rolled my eyes and weaved through a bunch of people.
I needed to get outside, I needed some air.
I walked out the already open back door, making my way down the stairs and to the edge of the yard. I sat down on the swing playing with the rim of my glass of water.
I just sat there and thought. About everything.
I liked it out here, it was quiet. I don’t know how long I was out there, but Ace ended up finding me. I sighed as he stood next to me and said, “KAT!” way too happily. I looked up at him and raised my brows. “Ace, go back inside.” I said, and turned my attention back to the ground.
He didn’t say anything for a minute before he was crouched in front of me. “Kat,” he said sharply grabbing my wrists, “Stop pushing me away.” He commanded. I struggled to free my wrists. “Ace, let go of my wrists, you and I have nothing to talk about.” I said sharply.
Suddenly, he stood up, pulling me with him. I was pulled to his chest, his hand securely on my back. “Ace, let me go.” I said in a dangerously low voice. “No!” he shouted. “Stop pushing me away Kat! I just want to talk to you and you completely ignore me! I’m done with it!”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “Talk?! You want to TALK?! Fine Ace, what do YOU want to talk about?!” I yelled back. He stared at me for a second before crashing his lips into mine. There was a time that I would have relished in the fact that he was kissing me, not anymore.
I pulled away from him, abruptly wiping my lips with the back of my hand. He began approaching me again. I quickly stepped away from him. “Ace!” I yelled. “Stop it!” I looked at him in his bloodshot eyes. “Why Kat?! All I ever wanted was YOU!” he yelled.
“Ace, stop.” I said rubbing my temples. “Why Kat?! Are you afraid to admit you still love me!” he said tauntingly. I glared at him menacingly. “I don’t love you. Not anymore.” I said. “I did once, but then you cheated on me. I thought you were different Ace. I thought you loved me. I thought you cared.” I said calmer. “I thought you cared.” I repeated, the tears welling in my eyes.
Katherine, you will not cry. He doesn’t deserve your tears.
I blinked the tears away. “Kat, I can change! I swear!” he pleaded. I shook my head. “No Ace. You can’t. Go back to Kelsey. You love her.” I said. “Kat…” he started, but I didn’t let him finish. “Goodbye Ace.” I said, spinning on my heel and walking away. I dug my phone out of my spandex that I had on under my dress, tapping Riley’s name and sending a quick text.
I’m leaving, don’t worry. I’ll find a way home. Stay. Have fun. You can take my car. I’m okay, just don’t really feel that well. I love you. Kat
I sighed walking down to the spot that Jeff took me to a while ago. I sat down in the grass laying my phone down next to me. I closed my eyes taking in a deep breath. I let the tears fall freely; all the pain of Ace cheating on me coming back. I didn’t bother to wipe them away, knowing there’d be more.
I don’t know how long but I must’ve cried for a while, when I finally stopped, my head hurt. I turned at the sound of crunching leaves. I saw Jeff standing there. I turned back around, not wanting him to see me like this. He sat down beside me.
“Just don’t, please.” I said quietly. “Rough day?” he asked. I nodded. I took in a deep breath. “I had a talk with Ace.” I said. “Your ex.” He stated. I nodded, “Yeah, he told me he wanted me back, kissed me, I told him no, left, and came here.” I said. He nodded, but I couldn’t help but notice his clenched jaw.
Jeff slung his arm around me and kissed the top of my head. “It’s gonna be okay.” He said.
And somehow, I knew it would be.
