Kat’s POV
What was that smell?
I couldn’t put my finger on it but it smelled like guy. A good smell though. I squeezed my eyes shut tighter. The sun was pestering me with its light, trying to get in my eyes. I rolled over burying my head in a shoulder. Wait; there should be no one in my bed. But wait, I wasn’t in my bed. WHAT.
I forced my eyes open to find Jeff lying next to me; sleeping. I watched him for a minute. Wow that sounded creepy, not creepily, but you get the point, at least I hope you do. Yeah. I attempted rolling onto my back, until I realized something was restraining me. An arm; Jeff’s arm.
It wasn’t until then that I realized Jeff’s jacket was lying over me, keeping me warm. I smiled, he was really sweet yesterday. Maybe I was wrong. Ha, you and I both know that I’m too stubborn to admit that. Let’s pretend I never thought of that. People like him never change. I sighed I had to wake Jeff up. I lightly began shaking him. “Jeff, Jeff you need to wake up” I said softly.
Jeff’s POV (WOOT WOOT FIRST JEFF’S POV)
I groaned.
Who the hell was shaking me?
“No I don’t wanna.” I thought I said but it came out as a mumble that sounded more like ‘No idomewatra.’ Main point, I didn’t want to freaking get up. I was hoping whoever was trying to wake me up would get that point. No such luck. They kept shaking me. “Jeff Jeff...” I heard a female voice say softly. “Jeff! Get your lazy ass up! Come on!” Oh, now I know who it was. Kat.
“Leave me alooooooooonnnne.” I groaned.
I heard her chuckle. “No come on, you gotta get up, it’s already 9 o’clock.” She said.
“Are you kidding me,” I said without opening my eyes “it’s only 9 o’clock and you’re trying to get me up, Ha, not gonna work.” I stated. She was quiet for a moment until I got a slap to the back of the head.
“OW!” I yelled. I opened my eyes facing her. “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, WOMAN?!” I yelled. I watched as she practically died of laughter. “You…….You’re…….. Face……..was……….so……..funny.”
She managed to get out between laughs.
She was just so cute. Once her laughter calmed, a look of panic cast over her face. “What?” my eyebrows furrowed.
“My parents, OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD IM GONNA BE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE.” She looked frantically for her phone.
“Kat,” I said, “Kat,” I tried again, “KAT.” I said grabbing her wrists. She looked at me. I smiled. “After you fell asleep, I texted your dad and wrote that you were sleeping over at Riley’s. Then I called Riley and told her to back you up. She told me to tell you that you need to call her and that she told you so.” I said.
She visibly relaxed. “Oh my god, thank you so much.” She said as she tackled me in a hug. I chuckled, “You’re Welcome.”
Kat’s POV
Oh my lord. Thank all of the heavens that Jeff texted my parents. ALL. OF. THE. HEAVENS. “I should probably head home, and then go see Riley.” I said. “Okay,” Jeff agreed, “I’ll take you home. Well, more like walk you home, considering we came in Garrett’s truck last night.” He said. I chuckled, “Okay.”
The walk was short. Turns out, that place wasn’t far from my house. “Thank you,” I said, “For everything.” I smiled. “No problem,” he stated, “I had fun.” He smiled. “I did too.” I said before giving him a quick kiss on the cheek and making my way into my house. I pressed my back against the door once I was inside. Letting everything sink in.
I made my way into the kitchen to see a note.
“Dad and I are heading up to Aunt Kassidy’s today; we’ll be back at some point Monday. Don’t make a mess of the house. We love you.
Xo,
Mom and Dad
P.S. There’s Ice cream in the freezer.
I smiled at the note. I loved my parents, they knew me so well. I ran upstairs and quickly changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a loose band tee. I grabbed my bag and my converse, making sure I locked the door on my way out. I started walking towards Riley’s house.
I got there about 15 minutes later, walking up the path I knocked on the door. “RILEY CAN YOU GET THAT!”I heard her mom yell. I smiled. “UGH, WE’RE SO LAZY IN THIS HOUSE. YES MOTHER I GOT THE DOOR.” I heard Riley yell back. I laughed. They were so funny.
The door opened and there stood Riley clad in a pair of ripped skinnies and a crop top. “Hey Mrs. Knight.” She teased. I rolled my eyes, pushing my way into their house. “I’M HUNNNNGGRRRYYY” I complained. “Oh, Hi Kat honey.” Riley’s mom said. “Hi momma numba 2.” I said grabbing a package of pop tarts and ripping them open.
“Sure, you can have my pop tarts.” Riley said rolling her eyes. “Thanks.” I mumbled with a mouthful. I followed her up to her room.
“Tell me everything.” She commanded. I explained everything that happened last night to her while she sat there looking smug. “I told you.” She said once I was done. “Shut up.” I said rolling my eyes.
“You like him.” She said. “I do not!” I mentally slapped myself. I sounded waayyyy too defensive. “Mhmm, whatever. You wanna go to the café down the street?” she asked. “Sure.” I answered.
But her words stuck in my mind.
You like him.
But do I?
