Dark Angel.. Chapter Twenty Seven.
Song & Title Credit: Got Your Back by T.I. ft Keri Hilson
So, I don't know a lot about courtroom marriages so please bare with me.
Angel~
"Stop worrying, Angel." Alex whispered, resting his hand over mine. I tried taking his words under consideration, but it was pointless. I have no idea how Alex can stay calm while sitting in the waiting room of a courthouse. We're about to get married and he doesn't even seem phased by the situation. God, I feel like I'm about to get arrested or something like that. I just can't seem to calm down. But can you blame me? I understand that I'm marrying someone who has the same strong feelings as I, but that doesn't changed the fact that I'm getting married at eighteen.
Sighing heavily, I leaned forward, burying my head in my hands. I don't doubt Alex, I honestly don't. The only thing I really wish is that our marriage doesn't crumble like that of my mother and father. They married when my father was twenty and my mother was nineteen- both young and in love. The main reason why they married was because my mother was pregnant with Oscar. Obviously, their marriage didn't last and now they have each other. I don't think I could ever hate Alex, but I still hope that we don't end up like they did.
"Angel Alvarez and Alex Gaskarth?" A female voice called out our names. I jolted up from the plastic chair, striding towards the female who had called out our names. The woman looked to be in her late thirties, her golden blonde hair tied into a tight bun, a pencil black skirt hugging her thighs while she wore a white business shirt. She was holding a brown folder, probably the papers we had submitted in request for a non traditional marriage. By the look in her emerald eyes, I could see that she was eyeing the two of us with curiosity, an emotion that a lot of people have been giving Alex and I since we entered the courtroom.
The women smiled kindly at us and held the heavy wooden door open. "Please, step in," she said in a gentle tone. I did as she said and stepped inside the room. It wasn't very big as a room in general, but it was pretty large for an office. The room had ivory coloured walls, two bookshelves pushed against the right of the room while the other held multiple cabinets. In the middle of the room sat a large mahogany desk, a leather chair sitting behind the furniture while two more sat before it.
"Take a seat." She smiled, closing the door. The woman walked behind the desk and sat down on the leather chair, placing the brown folder on the mahogany desk. "My name is Ximena {He-men-ah} Fernandez, and I'm the person who's going to see out that you to be wed." Ximena explained, smiling slightly before she opened the brown folder. "Obviously, we've had a few cases of fraud- a woman or man wanting to marry an American citizen just to earn their papers. To make sure you two are a legitimate couple, I'm going to ask a series of tests." We nodded in understanding, Alex squeezing my hand in attempt to comfort me a bit.
"So, the first question is for Mr. Gaskarth," she turned her attention to Alex, who seemed to tense at the woman's piercing gaze. "Do you remember the date when you and Ms. Alvarez began your relationship?" She asked.
"January, 16th." Alex answered quickly. I'm not going to lie, I even thought that Alex wouldn't remember this. "I sang her a song at this park, under a tree, and asked her if she wanted to be my girlfriend." He further explained. Ximena nodded, jotting down a few notes on a notepad before turning her attention to me. I tried holding back a swallow, but it was pointless. My palms were sweaty, my heart racing rapidly and all I wanted to do was leave.
"Okay, Ms. Alvarez. When's Alex's birthday? Where was he born? And what's his relationship status with his parents?" Ximena asked.
I awkwardly cleared my throat, shifting in the leather chair to a more comfortable position. "Um, Alex's birthday is on December, 14th. He was born in Essex and, from what I can see, he, um, he has a good relationship with his parents." My eyes flickered over to Alex, forcing a smile at the brunette before turning back to Ximena.
