Chapter Twenty: A Break & The Invitation

It had been 2 weeks since I told Mason that we should have a break and I haven't seen him since. Mostly because I haven't been at school but Sara and Angie come over to give me my work. I know I can't keep avoiding him but it's the most I can do now.

"Addy?" Jack asked pokeing his head into my room.

"Yea," I said.

"Your friends are here," He said.

"Oh, tell them to come into my room," I said and stood up to grab some of my books. I walked over to my balcony window and moved the curtain to the side a little so I could see. I poked my head out a little to see Mason and Clark in Clark's room talking I guess I don't know.

"Heyyy gurl!" Sara said and grabbed me from behind.

"Ahhh!" I squealed and started laughing.

"Here you go. Also Mason has been asking us about you, he somehow found out that we're coming over what do I say," Angie said and gave me a hug.

"Lie," I said simply.

"Well I'm not you so lying won't work how I want it to," Angie said.

"Well then I dunno," I said and sighed.

"Well you need to come back to school, everything's going to chaos. What makes it worse is the annual meeting of all the gangs, even the small ones, in the area is in a week and it's at our place this year," Sara said and laid down on my bed.

"Well I'm going back to school Monday," I said.

"Yeah for 2 days then we're on Thanksgiving break," Angie scoffed.

"Whatever," I said and sat down.

"So.....What really happened?...... I wanna know," Sara begged.

"Well after the race I had already been thinking of breaking up with Mason so I asked Jack to be waiting outside for me when I broke up with him. I was going to actually break up with him but I couldn't do it so I said we need a break and ran out to Jack. Though I never told Jack I did that so he thinks that were not official along with my other brothers and their upset at him because they think he broke my heart," I explained.

"If anyone's heart is broken it's probably Mason," Angie said and stood up.

"Angie what's up?" Sara said and put an arm around her.

"Look, I like you Adeline, your my friend, but I've known Mason since I was a baby and you hurt him a lot and it hurt to see him like that since he's always been a brother to me after...," Angie trailed off and looked down.

"Sorry, I guess, but what... never mind," I said about to asked what she was about to say.

"No it's fine, I should tell you anyways," Angie said and sat down facing me and Sara. "I know you know what happened to all our parents but that's not all true. You see Mason, Ralfeal, Carter, James, and Xavier's parents were killed in an accident but Sara, Noah, and I didn't have our parents follow them. Instead they got...kidnapped and murdered right outside of town. I had a little brother though and what sucked most was he wasn't even 1 week old at the time. When we found out and saw them I broke down because my parents and late infant brother were hanged on a tree with x-shaped duck tape over their eyes and mouth and they were, well its really gross so i wont go into detail. Well Mason took care of me, like a brother, till I was somewhat stable to do things on my own. It just hurt seeing him like this because it's another type of emotional pain than what I felt."
