George's P.O.V

"Oh, it's nothing. I've been threw worse." Chris finished wrapping her stomach in bandages. Blood still oozed from the massive hole in her stomach.

"But... But how?!" Kirsha shouted. "This should be impossible!!"

"Oh, I've had worse happen. Burning alive, being eaten alive, bleeding to death, drowned, suffocated, crushed, shot, ect. You name it, I've probably died that way." She commented nonchalantly. I stared at her, wide eyed and in interest.

"Have you been to the other side?" I asked amazed.

"Too many times." She laughed.

"What's it like?"

"It's... Dark and it's unsettling."

"What else?" I couldn't stop asking. It was so interesting.

"George. Stop it. She clearly doesn't like talking about it." Holly snapped.

"But it's so interesting!! Just like with the bone glass-"

"George, that was not interesting, it was dangerous. You could've died." Lockwood pointed out sternly.

"Well maybe not to you, but it was to me." I snapped. I turned my attention back to Chris and smiled, wanting to know more. Lucy had always teased me saying I was the "hungry mind" for the group.

"George, you should get ready for work. I'll tell you more after the case." She chuckled and smiled back at me.

"Fine..." I sighed and got up. Everyone else had already left to get ready.

"Oh, and George..." She called. I turned and faced her. "Don't ever change. The world needs more minds like yours."

What she said made me smile brightly and my cheeks to heat up a little. I shyly scratched the back of my head.

"Hah... Yeah well... I'm nothing special..." I muttered. I wasn't used to getting compliments.

"I'm serious! You have a wonderful mind and a future full of potential! Don't ever change that for the world. I never could stand weak minded idiots. I'd much rather prefer stubborn genius. They're much more fun to spend time around." She pointed out. "You're gonna go far, kid."

I thanked her and left, a huge grin still on my face. It's nice that she thinks I'm gonna go far.

"What are you smiling for?" Lockwood asked.

"Nothing." I lied. Like I was going to tell him that Chris found my personality amazing. I guessed he'd get jealous because of the way he glares at Rosalina for being so clingy to Chris. She probably does it to upset him.

He scoffed.

"Was Chris being nice? Don't buy into it. She knows how to get to people. She's probably faking it." Kipps suddenly appeared in the door.

"Oh really?" I snapped. I didn't believe him.

"Shut up Cubbins. You've only known her for a few months and she's already got you in her control. You haven't known he as long as I have." He spat.

"I thought you were friends with Chris." Lockwood sounded just as unbelieving as I did.

"I am. I'm just making sure you know. She's smart and aggressive. You'd be wise to stay away from her." He advised and left.

"What the hell?" I spat. "What in bloody hell is he going on about?!"

"I've know Chris for the same amount of time that he has. I honestly think something's gotten into his head to make him say that." Lockwood growled. "But what is the question..."
