Lockwood's P.O.V
Almost four days had passed, and thanks to Chris's care, I was almost completely recovered. Because of this, I begged her to let me go back to work, or at least leave the room to see everyone else again. Time and time again, I was turned down. She said that it would be best if I made a full recovery before even reintroducing myself to the company. Of course, I didn't see the point of this.
"A haunting? Here?" It was Kipps. While lost in angry thoughts, I didn't realize that a conversation was going on outside of the door. I got up, and sneaked to the door, pressing my ear to the door.
"Lucy says she wants nothing to do with this job. She won't say why, though..." George replied to him.
"Be glad she even talks to you." Kipps grumbled. "She hasn't said a word to me or anyone else since Chris and I went to finish the job. Poor girl is torn about his death."
"We both want to quit once we get back home. Without our leader, we can't do anything." George mentioned.
"Cubbins, you and I both know he wouldn't have wanted that." Kipps stated.
"No, but we can't work without him. Just like when Lucy left, we couldn't work without her." George mentioned.
"I suppose I can't stop you from doing that..." Kipps gave a long, heavy sigh.
"It was Lucy's idea. You know how what happened her shaped her." George pointed out.
"No wonder the girl wants to leave so badly." Kipps mumbled.
"Holly doesn't want us to quit. That's probably why she's taking jobs left and right!" George laughed.
"You know about what happened between John and Chris, right?" Kipps mentioned.
"John told me Chris was possessed and nearly killed him." George mentioned.
"He lied. Chris had confronted him about what had happened and the fight escalated to physical." Kipps informed. "The damn bastered had it coming for him. He was driving her mad."
George sighed. "I guess we should ignore it for now. Let's get ready for work."
My mind was rushing. Lucy and George were going to quit because I was dead? No! They can't! They're some of the best agents in all of England! No no no no. I'm not letting them quit work because I'm dead. I'm not dead, so they can't quit! That's when I decided I wasn't going to listen to Chris when she tells me to stay here.
I snuck out of the room, making sure that no one would see me. Once George had finished getting ready And was out, I snuck into the room and changed from pajamas to my normal work clothing. I couldn't find my coat however, but it didn't matter. I wasn't leaving.
I stood at the top of the stairs in the shadows, eavesdropping on the conversation.
"We've got sightings all over the place. Mostly on the first floor." George noted, shuffling some papers around.
"Right. Why don't you take the first floor, I'll take the second, and Lucy, will you take the ground floor?" Kipps turned to Lucy. It turns out that she was wearing my coat. It was too big for her, but she looked cute none the less. She wrapped her arms around herself tightly and almost buried her face in the collar.
"Right. Well, let's get too it." George put his papers away and Kipps walked with him it the stairs. I ducked around the corner so neither could see me. Once Kipps had gone upstairs, I braced myself for what George might say or do when he saw I was alive.
