Lincoln
"I thought your adoptive brother was dead," I say.
I look at the guy standing in front of us and try to picture him and Daxia being siblings. It fits somehow, more than Daxia and Nicholas, even Daxia and Dalia don't really seem related. They're both pretty similar; they carry themselves in the same 'I'm attractive and I know it' way, they even stand the same way. I watch as Daxia throws her arms around Marcus, and she slowly wraps his arms around her too. When they break their embrace, Daxia turns around to face us. I look over at Nicholas, who looks as surprised as I do.
"Marcus, this is Nicholas. He's my brother also. My biological brother," She says motioning towards Nicholas.
"And this is my friend Lincoln," She says pointing to me.
Marcus gives us each a firm nod, and a small wave. I wave back awkwardly.
"I don't mean to seem rude, but I have a very important and dangerous situation happening that actually affects all of us, and I would like to discuss this with Roman," Marcus says.
Daxia nods and walks back over to us. I watch as Marcus turns to face Roman, who doesn't seem at all fazed by the family reunion.
"Well, what is it?" Roman asks.
"Something is terribly wrong. My vampires are aging, wounds that they suffered years ago are appearing randomly again and this time they are not healing," Marcus says.
Roman narrows his eyes.
"What do you mean they're aging? That's not possible, they're vampires. They're more than that actually, they're part of the Night Clan," Roman leans against the table, looking thoughtful.
"The Headquarters," Nicholas mumbles.
I turn to look at him. He's staring at the ground in thought.
"What was that?" Roman asks.
Nicholas shakes his head and looks around the room.
"The magic in the city is being stripped away slowly because The Headquarters has disappeared. That's what causing the vampires to age. Soon, every single type of magic will be reversed, and by the end of the day we'll all be dead," He says.
I look over at Daxia, whose face I can't read. Roman looks angry like he wants to punch something. The two other vampires that stand with Marcus exchange looks with each other. Marcus remains calm.
"So what do we do?" Marcus asks Nicholas.
Nicholas shrugs.
"I don't think that there's anything that we can do, unfortunately. The only way to stop it would be to get The Headquarters back, but we have no idea where it was transported," He says.
Nicholas turns around and begins to pace around the room.
"There's got to be another way to stop it," Roman says.
Suddenly, I get an idea.
"Or, we could let it keep happening for a while longer," I say.
Everyone looks at me like I have completely lost my mind. I begin to explain.
"It we let the magic continue to reverse itself, all of you will turn back into Archangels, right?" I ask Roman.
He looks over at Nicholas, unsure.
"Yes, that is correct," Nicholas answers slowly.
"Okay, so what if we let that happen. Once you are Archangels, you'll be able to create a new Headquarters. So you do that, and then all of the magic comes back and nobody dies," I say.
