This chapter is dedicated to Lammalord for being my first fan! I hope you enjoy this story and if you have any advice, please let me know!

Sorry it's short but I wanted to see what you guys thought to see if I should continue with it.

=======================================================================

I crouched under low hanging branches and waited.

I curled my claws in anticipation, leaving small grooves in the dirt. I could barely control the urge to dart out and race for the lake. I flicked my ears back and forth listening for the smallest movement.

I glanced through the branches up at the sky. There were only a few more days until the full moon and everyone in the pack could feel it. Something special was about to happen; I could smell it in the air and feel it in my wolf. She was restless and she paced constantly when I was in my human form. I had been wolf more times this week than I had been human.

SNAP!

I bolted from my hiding place and raced for the lake. The snapping of a twig had echoed through the forest like a gunshot. My claws dug deep into the ground and I shot forward like a bat out of hell. I revelled in the feeling of my muscles stretching and my lungs burning. The wind whistled down into my lungs, bringing all the scents of the forest.

Jaws snapped close to my heels and I yelped in surprise. I glanced back to see determined gold eyes just as he lept. All 200lbs of wolf slammed into my back and we rolled down towards the lake. I nipped at his neck and he bit my ear firmly. I barked a warning and the wolf immediately released me and bounded to the lake. His tail twitched happily for show.

A large brown wolf came barrelling out of the woods and knocked the wolf onto his back. Dozens of wolves came bursting through the forest, tackling each other as they raced for the lake.

A large grey wolf rubbed up along my side and nipped my jaw. I shoved my head into his side and almost knocked him over. His grey eyes flashed with humour as we both sprinted for the water. We lept and shifted just before we hit the water. A flash of pain shot through my body as I took on my human form.

My head broke through the surface and I took in a greedy breath of the night air. The water was cool along my burning skin and I shivered in bliss.

"Mason?" I called.

The rest of my pack was diving in around me, splashing and playing, making it impossible to find him.

"Mason!" I yelled growing frantic.

Suddenly I was pulled down sharply. I kicked and clawed to the surface and coughed out the liquid in my lungs.

Mason's smiling face was directly in front of me.

"Miss me?" He asked innocently.

I grabbed his shoulders and pushed him under, he came back up sputtering and coughing.

"Jerk!"

Mason batted his eyes and pretended to be hurt.

Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind and pulled me back into a warm chest. I immediately knew who it was and elbowed him playfully in the ribs. Derek laughed in my ear but finally released me. Mason was glaring at him but I brushed it off as nothing.

"I almost beat you. Next time you wont be so lucky." He sniffed jokingly.

I laughed, "You just wait. Winter is a whole different game. I'd like to see you and your wolf try and hide all that black fur."

Derek snorted and muttered something about white wolves and advantages.

My clothes clung to my skin and made me heavy so I floated on my back and relaxed. Mason floated up next to me and his hand grazed my thigh my accident.

I had grown use to the frequent touching and petting from my pack. It had something to do with me being a white wolf they said. My father had been an alpha andhad mated with my mother who was an omega, which had occured before but no other pair had ever been able to have pups.

Until me.

I was the exception, to just about every rule. I didn't fall into any ranking in the pack, I was neither alpha nor omega, and my white fur was even more rare. Some wolves would be shades of white with black or grey markings, but I was pure white. Ever since I had been born, my pack had felt the need to protect me. My alpha said it was an adaptation I had been born with to make up for my white fur. A white wolf in a forest does not blend and would not survive if natural selection had anything to do with it, but having a pack who felt the urge to protect me was my body's way of protecting myself.

It made sense in a way but I always felt like a burden to my pack. My pack would always feel obligated to protect me until the day I died.

"Leah. Enough." My Alpha's voice boomed out over the lake.

I shuddered at the sound of his powerful voice. My wolf was immediately at attention and ready to follow orders.

I should have felt my Alpha's presence in my mind but I had been destracted.

"You are not a burden Leah."  He said softer but it was laced with a command.

All thoughts of being a burden were pushed from my mind, for now.

Several members of my pack growled angrily in agreement with our Alpha. Mason pulled me flush up against his side and whispered angrily in my ear, "You will never be a burden.
