- Leah's POV -

I still didn't know how I was going to approach Mason.

After he had confessed that he loved me as more than a friend, I had been trying to avoid him. To be honest I was scared. Would this ruin our friendship? Mason was in every one of my childhood memories and I couldn't lose him now.

I took a deep breath as I tried to calm my nerves. What would I say? Yeah sorry Mason I have a mate but can we pretend that this never happened and go back to being friends? Like that would go over well, I thought sarcastically.

I scented the air for Mason and gasped. My body locked in place and my wolf paced frantically at the back of my mind.

Mate! She screamed.

I swiveled around trying to find him. It didn't help that I had no idea what he looked like in his human form.

Find him! My wolf demanded.

The wolves that were supposed to be guarding pack territory were with the Alpha, making plans and deciding how to eliminate the rogues, which meant no one could stop me from running to me mate.

My heart was beating frantically in my chest as I shifted into my wolf. Immediately my wolf pushed me aside and took over. She took sprinted faster than we have ever run before. The trees started to blur at the edge of our vision.

Our heart ached. It finally hit home as the pain and longing for our mate doubled over the last two days. We had missed our mate so much.

I watched through our eyes as my wolf dodged the trees at a neck breaking speed. If we hit one of the larger trees at this speed, we would most likely be dead, even with the fast healing from being a wolf. Just as I thought this, we slammed into something warm.

My wolf laid down on the forest floor and focused on breathing. We whimpered as pain shot up our side. My wolf gladly let me take over as I shifted back to human form. I gently touched my ribs and the pain flared up again. I hissed in a breath as the pain slowly started to dull.

I looked up to see what we had slammed into and I gasped.

A large black wolf with dark blue eyes approached me slowly. My heart sped up but it wasn't from fear.

Mate! My wolf shouted.

"Mate," I whispered.

The wolf paused for a second as my word reached his ears. He suddenly raced at me and came nose-to-nose with me. I was still sitting on the ground with my legs stretched out in front of me. My mate stood with two legs on either side of my body. My breath hitched as the wolf nuzzled my neck. His warm breath heated me skin as he took in my scent.

I slowly reached up and touched his fur. I trembled as what felt like an electric current, shot down my arm straight to my heart.

"Shift?" I asked breathlessly.

The black wolf pulled back from my neck so he could stare into my eyes. Lighter flecks of blue were scattered around his dark blue eyes. I was concentrating on his eyes when I felt a hairless hand touch my cheek.

I jumped as I realized my mate had shifted and I now had a full grown man leaning over my body. I looked down at his sculpted chest. He had tan skin that radiated heat. I looked up at his face and my heart nearly stopped beating. He was a God. That was the only explanation I could find. He had short, shiny black hair, a perfect nose, thin lips, and a square jaw. My wolf purred at our handsome mate.

My mate smiled and I know for certain that my heart missed a beat. His smile lit up his entire face, revealing perfectly white teeth.

This time, I was the one to lean forward and breathe in his scent. My mate leaned back and pulled me into his lap. His fingers ran through my brown hair as I nuzzled the side of his neck. He smelt like the woods, and a musky scent distinct to males. He smells like safety, I thought to myself.

"I don't even know your name..." I said.

"Will." He answered and my wolf purred in content at the deep sound of his voice.

"Leah." I told him.

He repeated my name and I shivered at the sound of my name rolling off his tongue.

He suddenly pulled away to look at me.

"You didn't meet me here."

I could see the hurt flash in his eyes and I immediately touched his face, trying to erase the pain.

"I'm sorry. There's been rogues threatening my pack and I couldn't leave." I explained.

His arms tightened around me on the word, 'rogue.' He growled as he pulled me closer protectively. I smiled to myself at how protective my mate was.

"You'll stay with me." He growled. He sounded so sure of himself, like he could protect me from the world.

"No." I said. He growled and I held up a hand for him to be quiet. "I can't just abandon them. They need me." I finished.

Will buried his head in my neck, and hid his face with my hair.

"I need you..." He whispered.

I couldn't stop the purr that escaped my lips. I could feel Will smile as he grazed my skin with his sharp teeth. I shuddered.

"I-I should be getting back." I replied shakily.

Will's grip tightened painfully.

"No." He snapped.

I laughed and pushed Will away. He sat on the ground looking up at me with the saddest look on his face, like a little boy that was told Christmas was cancelled. My wolf took over for a second, long enough for us to lean down and press our lips to his forehead. I quickly took over again and stood with a shocked expression on my face. I touched my tingling lips with my fingers.

Will's eyes darkened with lust and he slowly got to his feet.

"Gotta go!" I yelled and raced off into the trees.

I could feel Will chasing me and I knew he could catch me if he wanted to. I glanced back to see him in his wolf form with a playful glint in his eyes. As soon as I neared my pack border, Will slowed and backed off.

Tomorrow, he whispered in my mind.

As soon as I got home I raced up to the bathroom and had a shower. Anyone of my pack mates would be able to smell another wolf on me. I rubbed my skin raw with soap and thoroughly washed my hair. Twice.

My wolf was angered by this, she wanted to smell like our mate.

They will ask too many questions, I told her. They need to be focused on the rogues right now.

She growled softly but didn't reply. We'll see him tomorrow, I reminded her, and she immediately cheered up.

As soon as I got out of my shower, I put on some white shorts and a black t-shirt. I quickly looked out the window to see grey clouds rolling in, effectively blocking out the sun. I grabbed a large grey sweater and threw it on.

Leah? Sydney asked.

I paused as I reached the front door. Sydney rarely used the mind link unless she absolutely needed something or someone.

Yes? I answered hesitantly.

I think you should come to the Alpha house.

Is something wrong? I asked.

There was a long pause before she answered.

Someone's here to see you, Sydney replied.
