I woke to the delicious smell of bacon.

My wolf growled hungrily and I padded barefoot down the stairs. I quickly ran my fingers through my mess of curly brown hair. Just as I turned the corner a piece of bacon came soaring at my face.

I snatched it out of the air and devoured the crispy strip of meat. I purred in content even through five people were watching.

"If I were that chunk of bacon..." Derek groaned.

Mason kicked him sharply under the table and Derek grinned at me. I rolled my eyes and got distracted by a plate of bacon that was pushed over to me. I sat down and fended off grabby hands.

Mason pecked me on the cheek. I was so startled I didn't react in time to see him grab a strip of bacon until he was chewing it inches from my face. My wolf growled and I protectively pulled the plate closer to my chest. Mason just continued to watch me and chew happily on my bacon.

After breakfast I quickly got dressed into some shorts and a short sleeved shirt which had, 'Werewolves are better than Vampires" printed across the chest. Derek had bought it for my birthday last year as a joke.

I felt my Alpha brush my thoughts with his mind as he checked up on his pack. He was a good Alpha; fair and respectful of others privacy even though he had the power to invaid our minds at any second. But he also wouldn't think twice to use Voice on his pack if he felt his position or mate were threatened.

I jogged past the small houses spread out through the forest. Houses for the pack's mates and families. There was a house for each male of the pack. My pack wasn't sexist towards the females in the pack, it was just common for the females to go live with their mate.

Three of the children in the pack spotted me and rushed over. I stopped and let them touch my hair and breathe in my scent. Even the children could feel the pull to protect me. I ruffled their hair affectionately. Once they felt reassured that I was safe, they shifted into pups and chased each other around.

I continued to jog through the forest until the pack houses were out of sight, then I shifted and ran as a wolf. As a wolf I could smell all of the scents and hear all of the sounds in the forest. A light breeze tickled my fur and I felt free.

I let my wolf take over and she glady pushed me into the corner of her mind so she could take the reins. I was vaguely aware of her racing through the forest and leaping over fallen trees. We passed the lake and continued on to the denser and thicker part of pack territory.

A rabbit darted out of a bush and my wolf raced after it. The rabbit zigzagged through the bushes and we started to close the gap quickly. The small animal started to grow tired and it stumbled; my wolf prepared to leap.

We froze; the rabbit completely forgotten.

I stirred in the corner of her mind trying to find out what caused my wolf to stop hunting. My wolf stared straight ahead and I could feel all the fur on our body raise slightly. She raised our head and scented the air but our back was to the wind. All the muscles tensed in our body as she readied herself to run.

Our ears twitched back and forth but there was no sound. The birds and crickets had stopped their music.

My wolf was frightened and it scared me.
