This is more of a filler chapter but I promise the next chapter will be longer!

==================================================================

With the imminent threat of rogue wolves, our pack was on lock down.

Parents were starting to put the children to bed, and bonfires were being lit around the perimeter of the territory. The bonfires lit up the sky making it impossible for anyone to sneak in without being seen, and if they were in their wolf form, their eyes would flash from the flames.

I stared into the flames and let my mind wander to think about my mate. My wolf was getting agitated from being apart from him too. I remembered the size of his wolf. Wolves weren't usually that big, even the ones from my pack wouldn't stand that tall.

The Irremotus pack was to the West and they same size as our pack, so that ruled out them. The Ligoni pack to the East were small and fast while the Crassodon pack of the South had distinct coloured paws. That left the Lycaon pack to the North. I had never seen a Lycaon wolf before, and from what I had heard, they were the greatest fighters.

Something tugged on my sweater and I looked down to see scared blue eyes.

"Leee-ah," he sobbed.

I knelt to pick up the little boy and cradled him close to my chest. He pressed his damp face into the crook of my neck and inhaled my scent. As soon as Tyler settled down he sat back in my arms to look up at my face. His bright blue eyes reminded my of my mate's eyes and I felt pain shoot through my chest. I missed him already and I didn't even know his name.

"It's okay Tyler," I whispered comfortingly.

Tyler's eyes searched my face before he rested his small head back on my shoulder.

"I can't find my mom," he sobbed.

Pups were too young to be able to use the mind link, and all their senses were more sensitive and they could easily get overwhelmed in a pack. It wasn't a surprise that Tyler had lost his mother.

I closed my eyes and concentrated on the pack link. I didn't know Tyler's mom very well which made contacting her frustrating.

Victoria, I have Tyler.

I immediately was sent a blurry image of a yellow and white house.

We're coming, I told her.

--Mason's POV--

I saw Leah standing close to one of the bonfires. The flame made her green eyes flash and her hair appear red. I took a step towards her but stopped when Tyler ran up to her. I stayed back and leaned against a tree as I watched them.

Tyler pulled on her sleeve and sobbed.

I watched Leah's eyes flash with concern as she picked up the boy and cradled him to her chest. Tyler inhaled her scent and relaxed. I smiled to myself knowing that Leah's scent had the exact same effect on me.

I knew she wasn't my mate, but that didn't stop me from wanting her.

Leah ran her hand up and down the child's back and I heard her through the mind link as she called for Tyler's mother. A smile lit up her face when she received a reply and she gently carried Tyler off into the woods.

I frowned when she was gone. I had smelt another wolf on her when she had returned from her morning run. The scent had definitely been from an Alpha male, and one that I didn't recognize. It only made it worse when Leah hadn't said anything about this encounter.

I was her best friend and she was keeping secrets.

Not for long, I thought.
