Chapter Twelve

Hinata buried her face in both her palms as she sobbed.

"Nee chan... He's... He's going to be fine..." Hanabi tried to console her elder sister while she herself held back a sob.

"I... I feel... so helpless Hanabi... I... I wouldn't know what to do... if... if..." Hinata's voice cracked towards the end as hurried footsteps approached the two sisters.

"We came as soon as you called us Hinata! How is he?" Ino huffed as she arrived with Sai, Neji and Tenten...

Hinata looked up at her friends as she bit her lip.

"He's still in ICU..."

Neji's eyes softened at his cousin as he hugged Hinata.

"Look he's going to be fine. That Naruto is one stubborn knucklehead and he's not going to give up without a fight." Neji whispered into Hinata's ear as he stroked her hair.

The bluenette held onto Neji's shoulders as she cried hard into his neck...

"God damn it how difficult is it to find a parking lot in this hospital!" Hiashi's voice was heard cursing as he approached the group gathered outside Naruto's ICU room.

His footsteps became hurried when he saw his eldest daughter crying her heart out...

"Hinata..." Hiashi's voice called out softly as Neji gently pried Hinata's hands away from his shoulders and shifted her to face Hiashi, who has bent down to Hinata's eye level.

"Father..." Hinata whispered, her eyes red and puffy.

Hiashi's heart clenched when he saw his daughter in that state...

"Come here..." Hiashi held out his arms as Hinata threw herself and hugged her father tightly.

Hiashi rocked Hinata back and forth as he kissed her head.

Hinata's friends didn't want to disrupt the moment so they each took a seat and waited patiently for Naruto's updates...

After three agonizing hours, the door to Naruto's ICU room opened.

Hinata was by now sitting up and staring into empty space. However when she heard the doors swung open, her head immediately snapped towards the ICU room and she quickly stood up along with her friends and family...

"Family members of Uzumaki Naruto?" a lady in her 40s accompanied by three nurses, one of whom is Sakura, asked as she looked around.

Hinata quickly approached the doctor followed by the others..

"Doctor Miru, I am Uzumaki Hinata. Uzumaki Naruto is my husband. Is my husband okay?" Hinata asked the doctor in one breath.

The doctor took a deep breath as her lips drew into a thin line, giving a weak smile.

"He is okay..."

Everyone behind Hinata, including the bluenette herself, released a sigh of relief.

"But... he's suffering from amnesia." the doctor finished.

Suddenly the environment became silent.

"Sorry?" Hiashi's deep voice asked. "Can you please repeat what you said? I could have sworn I heard you said that my son-in-law is suffering from amnesia."

Hinata's lavender eyes stared at Sakura and her fears were confirmed when she saw Sakura's jade eyes brimming with tears.

"Yes. I am afraid you heard me right. Naruto... He... His condition... Would be the nearest to amnesia for now..."

Neji cut the doctor off.

"What do you mean nearest to?"

The doctor took a deep breath.

"He is now conscious... From his injuries, it was a miracle he woke up faster than what we predicted as we injected a huge amount of anaesthesia into him to stitch up his wounds. He's a real fighter. However upon waking up, we asked him questions and he seems to remember everything but nothing about his spouse. We understand from his records that he is married to you Mrs Uzumaki but... This is the first time we've seen a patient remembering everything perfectly except for one information... So for now, the nearest Uzumaki Naruto is diagnosed with is amnesia. I'm sorry Uzumaki Hinata but your husband has no recollection of you..." Doctor Miru finished as Hinata's mind went blank.

The sounds around her were suddenly muted as she digested what the doctor just told her.

"I'll leave all of you for now. Sakura, you take over from here." Doctor Miru informed Sakura as the pink haired nurse nodded her head.
