Chapter 17 A Hostile Encounter

                                                      Cinderash's POV
"Me, Pebbleheart, Nightshade, and Skyepaw will patrol the the Ghostclan boarders." I said finishing organizing patrols.
"Can we come to?" Quailkit asked as he scrambled up the rock where I sat, "yeah we'll fight off icky GhostClan any day" he sister Deerkit called, joining her brother soon after. I purred in amusement those kits really are ready to become apprentices soon
I thought
the apprentices den's gonna be crowded until Skyepaw and Featherpaw become warriors. "Maybe next time" I replied trying not to let them down, "oh, okay" Deerkit said looking down at her paws sadly "what about next time?" Quailkit said trying to sound hopeful "sure" I said rolling my eyes. "Quailkit Deerkit!" Dawntail called peeking her head out of the nursery looking for her kits
"coming mom!" They both called scampering off of the rock and into the nursery.

"Ready, or are you gonna join them in the nursery?" Nightshade called sarcastically, I turned around to see her, Pebbleheart, and Skyepaw waiting next to the rocky slope that lead out of camp Skyepaw really sticks out with her all white pelt compared to Nightshade's all black pelt and Pebbleheart with her light grey pelt. I thought to myself padding over to join them. "Let's go!" Skyepaw meowed excitedly she seemed like she could barely stand still. Nightshade gave her a swipe on the ear "quit it, a warrior doesn't rush senior warriors" Nightshade hissed "or do you want to be an apprentice for awhile longer, while your sister becomes a warrior?" Nightshade asked her apprentice, Skyepaw didn't seem to affected by the scolding but she lowered her head and backed away. "Let's get going" Pebbleheart said trying to change the conversation I'm glad she's being more herself I thought as we left the camp. She's been so off lately.

"The boarder to the north seems clear Cinderash's" Nightshade called as Skyepaw joined her as she carried a quail on her back. "I caught this when we were patrolling the boarder it's so big!" Skyepaw exclaimed, Nightshade gave Skyepaw a satisfied nod. "You did well and you were smart to carry it on your back then dragging it" she explained the young apprentices eyes lit up from the praise. "She's right" I agreed "a quail like that can feed almost all of the clan." "But" Pebbleheart said joining in from patrolling the south side of the boarder "the quail looks like it was fattening up for leafbare." "What!" Nightshade exclaimed looking at Pebbleheart like she turned into a mouse all of the sudden. "It's still only the greenleaf" I thought for a bit, the prey does seem like it's preparing for leafbare early, could they know something we don't? "We should tell Rockstar" I finally said Pebbleheart nodded though Nightshade still looked doubtful.

All of the sudden a screech rang out from behind us, "give that back its mine" Skyepaw exclaimed. "Skyepaw!" Nightshade gasped realizing the apprentices disaperence. Without hesitation I ran through the bushes to see Skyepaw a few fox lengths from the boarder, on the other side was Mossleaf, Sapphirefeather, Lightswift, and Rosepaw all bristling Rosepaw had Skyepaw's quail in her jaws "give that back" Skyepaw hissed and took another step forward "not a chance" Rosepaw said her voice muffled by the feathers of the large bird. "Stop" I yowled as Nightshade and Pebbleheart came up behind me, both bristling. "She stole that" Rosepaw, "no I didn't!" Skyepaw spat back her back arched and bristling "Mossleaf" Nightshade said surprisingly calm "with all due respect I saw my apprentice catch that on our side of the border" I've never seen her act this calm around other clans before! I thought to myself watching the Dusk black she cat "maybe you should teach your apprentice some manners" I herd her mumble under her breath, that's the Nightshade I know!

If Mossleaf herd the comment she ignored it and only flicked her ears and backed away signaling Rosepaw to do the same reluctantly, Rosepaw threw the quail back to Skyepaw and joined her mentor as Lightswift, most likely the leader of this patrol turned his gaze toward Pebbleheart for some reason. "Maybe she didn't" Lightswift started, "but she did!" Lightswift yowled taking a step closer to Pebbleheart who looked horrified "she couldn't have-" I was broken off by Lightswift's growl, "we saw her catch a rabbit on our side of the border a few sunrises ago" he spat, I stared at Pebbleheart in shock "Pebbleheart is this true?" I asked trying my best to be calm Rockstar's one his last life, I have to prove to these cats that I can be a good leader. I said to myself. Pebbleheart only nodded silently "I knew it!" Lightswift yowled he was furious it almost looked like he was going to jump across the border at any second and claw our pelts off. "But it was on our territory first and I didn't scent any markers" Pebbleheart said defending herself. "Maybe we should be more carful and you should put more scent markers down" I said trying to sound nonaggressive Lightswift glared but signaled his patrol to continue "this isn't over" Lightswift meowed "prey's been scarce lately don't think we won't fight for what we have" he growled and then left to join his patrol again. Maybe they finally realize there mistake of living in a dark, dense forest
I thought smugly but didn't say anything there almost as crazy as Oceanclan, making there home where there are a bunch lakes and rivers at every turn.
