Frogpaw watched his mentor concerningly, a ripple past through the river yet she didn't make an effort to dive. "Are you trying to catch fish or are you just starring at your reflection?" Reedstorm question, making Phoenixheart jump. "Er- sorry," she stammered, Reedstorm rolled his eyes and turned back to the river.
"Something up?" Frogpaw asked catching up to Phoenixheart as the patrol padded back to camp. "I'm fine," she stated, her gaze drifting over to the mountains just outside of Clan territory. "The fact that you didn't catch anything says otherwise," Frogpaw observed, playfully shoving Phoenixheart's shoulder.
"I said I'm fine!" Phoenixheart snapped, making
Frogpaw freeze. She was usually a lot more patient then this."Sorry," Frogpaw murmured quietly, guilt flashed in Phoenixheart's eyes. "No, I'm sorry," she admitted. "I'm just a little stressed out is all," Frogpaw nodded, knowing that this wasn't a good time to pester her for more details.
Phoenixheart stopped when we got to the stepping stones that led to OcranClan's camp. "Go and put the prey you caught in the prey pile I'll be back at camp in a few heartbeats." She ordered, Frogpaw nodded. He leaped across the stepping stones gracefully but hid inside the reeds instead of going back into camp. He was determined to understand what was wrong with his mentor.
Phoenixheart sighed before walking the opposite direction of the camp, quickly Frogpaw hid the minnow he caught in the reeds and ran to catch up with her, losing his footing on a few of the stones but making it safely to dry land.
Quietly, Frogpaw padded the direction Phoenixheart went. Making sure not to make a sound as if he was hunting prey. He followed her scent until it led to Swimming Lakes, the lake where apprentices are taught how to swim.
Frogpaw ducked into a bush. His pelt caught on twigs and thorns but that didn't matter to him once he noticed Phoenixheart standing on the banks with Maplewish who had a pile of fish beside her.
"But you can't leave! Not again!" Maplewish explained, her voice desperate. Phoenixheart sighed, "I'm coming back Maple, this isn't like when I went away thinking I can live with the Tribe suddenly. Besides she might be in danger," Phoenixheart explained gravely, resting her tail on her littermate's shoulder. "Come with me, she'd love to see you again."
Maplewish stared at the sandy ground, unease making her pelt prickle. "No, not after last time.. I can't go up there again." She finally whispered, her tone fearful.
"That won't happen again! I won't let it, you won't get hurt this time I-" Maplewish cut Phoenixheart off sternly, "no. I'll respect your wishes to leave, but you have to respect my wishes to stay." She announced, Phoenixheart hesitated before sighing. "Okay," Maplewish intertwined her tail with Phoenixheart's. "I can't stop you but.. Think about the future instead of the past. Your future is here with OceanClan, with me.. Not up there."
Phoenixheart nodded, "I know, but family is worth fighting for. You were the one to show me that." Maplewish chuckled, "I guess you're right."
