A small grey tom cat sat at the entrance to his housefolk's nest and looked up at the sky. It was to cloudy too see any stars tonight, but the soft snowflakes that drifted steadily through the breeze made up for it. It didn't take long for the tom to notice a thrush flying above him, he was cold but curiosity as to why the thrush was out in the middle of winter rooted his paws to the ground.
Without warning the thrush dived straight into a bush next to the tom making him jump. Startled, the tom unsheathed his claws and jumped into the bush, hooking the wing of the thrush before it was able to fly away. The tom dragged the thrush out of the bush as it struggled, its free wing flapping wildly. Half panicked, the tom quickly killed the thrush with one bite and stared down at it as he caught his breath.
He picked the thrush up and turned to go back to nest when he suddenly heard a hard thud. He turned around to see a half starved russet red she-cat with orange markings lying on the thunderpath. Because of the snow not many monsters had come by today, but the tom knew that one would show up eventually, and he was worried that the she-cat would still be lying there when it did.
The tom took one last look at his prey before padding onto the thunderpath and dragging the she-cat by the scruff toward the saftey of a small dip under a tree on the opposite side of the thunderpath. When the tom gently placed the she-cat into the dip she started to wake up, quickly he darted away.
Phoenixheart opened her eyes slightly, her stomach ached from not eating for days, and she could've sworn that she was crossing the thunderpath that was infront of her. She struggled to her paws, her legs trembling as she started to slowly walk back to her den.
Before she could get far a grey tom bounded up to her with a thrush in his jaws. Phoenixheart growled, taking a few shaky steps away from him. The tom put the thrush down to speak, "calm down, I won't hurt you." Only then did Phoenixheart notice that he had a red collar.
Knowing that he was just a kittypet soothed Phoenixheart's worries slightly. "I can help you back to your housefolk's nest," the tom offered cheerfully, there was something about the his enthusiasm that Phoenixheart admired.
"I don't live with twolegs, I'm a rouge." She admitted, the tom's eyes widened, "oh, you're that rouge that chased away Moose and Lucy from that cave aren't you?" Phoenixheart flicked one of her ears, "Yeah, I did chase away two kittypets a few sunrises ago. And that cave is my den for your information." She huffed, the tom nodded in understanding.
"Sorry about that, Moose and Lucy like to stick their noses in places they don't belong. Anyway, I can bring this thrush back to your den for you." Phoenixheart hesitated, she needed that thrush, but it would take her awhile to bring it back to her den in the condition she was in. And her newborn kits needed her back as soon as possible.
Eventually she replied, "okay, but what's your name?" The tom smiled and puffed out his chest proudly, "Hikari, I'm the most well known cat around here." Phoenixheart held back a purr of amusment, "whatever you say." Hikari nodded and picked the thrush back up, "lead the way," he said, his voice muffled from the feathers.
Phoenixheart flicked her tail across Hikari's ear playfully and started padding into the forest, Hikari following close behind her as the snow flew through the breeze.
