"Are we there yet?" Frogpaw whined as he trecked a few tail lengths behind his mentor. His paws stung on the hard rocky floor and his eyes felt heavy. "We've only traveled for a day. You need to be patient." Phoenixheart replied blankly Frogpaw muttered incoherently, Phoenixheart flicked her tail irritably.
After a few more complaints from Frogpaw Phoenixheart finally gave in. "Fine, we'll hunt and rest for awhile." She announced. Frogpaw smiled, puffing out hus chest. "Thank y-you.." He said before yawning.
"Here's fine" Phoenixheart said as they came into a small clearing. "We'll rest here for awhile and than hopefully we can get to the Tribe by moonrise." Frogpaw nodded, settling into a small patch of grass, he muttered something before falling asleep.
Phoenixheart flicked her ear, she wasn't tired and her paws didn't hurt due to making this journey one to many times. After a few heartbeats she decided to go hunting so they could get to the Tribe sooner rather than later.
Phoenixheart padded down the trail she had orginally went up with Frogpaw in thought. She wasn't sure whether or not she was more worried about the Tribe or the Clan finding out where we are. Once Heatherstar found out that she went back to the Tribe after last time there's a chance she could be exiled. And she could never forgive herself if he was exiled because of her.
Suddenly Phoenixheart's ears pricked as a stone rolled out of place behind a pile of rocks. Silently, she jumped onto the pile of rocks and starred down at an unsuspecting bunny. Bunching up her muscles, Phoenixheart leaped down on top of the bunny, sinking her cloaws into it as it screeched. Quickly she killed it with a clean bite.
Phoenixheart sighed, picking the bunny up and placing it in a small hole in the stones. She couldn't help feeling as though she was being watched.
"Wake up," Phoenixheart ordered, flicking Frogpaw's ear with her tail. "Wha-What happened," he stammered, clumbsily getting up from where he had slept amd shaking off some grass from his pelt. "Lets eat and then get going." Phoenixheart said dropping a thin, lackluster squirrel in front of him.
Frogpaw's eyes widened, "That's the smallest squirrel I've ever seen!" He exclaimed, poking the squirrel. "It's been a long time since I've hunted up here, I'm not the best at it" Phoenixheart admitted, she took the squirrel and replaced it with the bunny she had first caught. "This one's fatter, I'll eat the squirrel,"
Frogpaw hesitated before thanking Phoenixheart and crouching down, eating the bunny ravengingly. Phoenixheart smiled and ate what she could of the squirrel, flinching at the touch skin and horrible taste. She always did favor fish over land prey.
"Let's go," she stated once Frogpaw finished eating. "How long it is until we get to the Tribe?" He questioned as we started walking up the steep trail up the mountains. "We should get there by moonhigh." Phoenixheart predicted, Frogpaw nodded before racing infront of Phoenixheart by a few tail lengths to look at the view.
From there he could see the dense forest GhostClan lived in, and the grassy plains VallyClan hunted in. If he squinted, Frogpaw could make out the old landmarks in his territory. Suddenly feeling a wave of homesickness.
Phoenixheart rested her tail on Frogpaw's shoulder, sitting beside him as she stared at the lamdscape before them. "We'll be back there before you know it," she said. Unsure if she was trying to reassure Frogpaw or herself.
