Her heart before mine

Liam's POV~

Groaning, I kept flicking through the channels as the nurse changed the fluids"are you sure I can't see Sarah?" I asked her...again."

She laughed"I was told she was still in surgery and you need to worry about yourself, Mr. Payne. Would she want you to worry about her?"

I shook my head"no, she would've told me to shut up by now. I just want her to be okay."

She set down her clipboard"was she the one?"

I nodded"we were together for like seven months and she broke up with me to keep me safe from the guy who put us here. I tried to move on, five years and I could never over truly get over her. We were finally able to say I love you to each other but then she got shot. I finally have the chance to truly make her mine, I want to be a father to her son." I looked at her"she adopted a son, he's her world and I want them to be mine."

The nurse smiled"that is love at it's finest and when she gets out of surgery, I'll take you to see her but you have to be in a wheelchair, is that okay?" The door opened and the lads walked in, I was surprised to see Adam and Stefan with them.

I turned back to the nurse"thank you, I would really love that." She nodded and finished then left. "Is she okay?" I asked them. It scared me when I saw the frowns on their faces at my question"would someone please tell me if Sarah's okay?"

Niall looked at Zayn and sighed"the surgery went well, they were able to save her, but she's weak."

I let out a deep breath"that's all that matters, but...yeah."

Adam stepped forward"she loves you, man. I'm not pissed, trust me. I know she loves you, there's no denying it and don't ever doubt her love for you and don't take her for granted. Stefan comes first to her, don't fight for her attention and love, she's her own person and she doesn't want to be babied but when she does, make sure she knows that there's nothing wrong with wanting to be held because no matter how strong she may be, she's still fragile."

"Why are you telling me all this?" I was confused.

He gave me a small smile"because I'm setting her heart free, she has you and Stefan and all these great guys. I'll always cherish the time I had with her but she needs you and you need her. So go be a family."

We all stared at him shocked"wow, thank you." I didn't know what to say.

He nodded"I'm still gonna be in their lives, I've been the only father Stefan has known and I love that little guy too much to leave him."

I nodded"I'm not that heartless, thank you."

Adam smiled"I'm gonna take Stef to see her, I hope you recover well." He took Stefan from Zayn and left the room. I watched them go and I was speechless by his words, I'm glad Sarah had him in her life.

"He's a great guy, he really loves them, Liam. He's putting her heart before his, he's always done it. It was hard for her to open up to him, Liam and just because she said she loves you is one thing, but she's changed over these past five years. She has a son to think about and if you hurt her, you're also hurting Stefan and she'll kill you." Zayn said.

Harry looked at him"how come you never told us that you still talked to Sarah and knew about Stefan?"

Zayn sat down on the couch that was in the private hospital room"because I wasn't the only one with her phone number even after the break up." He gave us a look"and Stefan is her son, it wasn't my place to speak. She's a great friend and mother, she's helped me a lot with Perrie. Those two are best friends, she and I are Stefan's godparents."

"I admit that I'm kinda hurt." Louis said as he sat down next to Zayn. I sat there thinking, trying to find a reason to be upset but I couldn't, there wasn't a reason to be. I shook my head and just waited for the nurse to come with that wheelchair so that I can see Sarah.

Sarah's POV~

I really hate hospitals, but I didn't even care about that now, I just wanted to see my baby boy. Dr. Brooks told me that I was really lucky to be okay and had great friends who cared about me, he said he was happy that my son would still have a mother. His wife was Liam's doctor and he said that Liam was fine, they were able to remove the bullet. They removed the bullet in my chest but had to be really careful because the shot was close to my heart and lung. It was hard to breathe so they had this machine to help me.

I stared at Adam who was holding my hand. Stefan was sleeping in the bed with me"we're all glad you're okay, Sarah. I know Liam is."

He told me what he told Liam and what he had planned on doing, I was just happy that he wasn't leaving our lives"I-I'll al-always l-o-love you, y-you sh-show-ed me h-how t-to lo-love."

He smiled and kissed my hand"and you'll always be loved, Sarah. I just don't want to be out of Stefan's life."

"T-that'll n-never hap-happen." I assured him.

The door opened"oh my god, Sarah." Sam rushed in the room, Joe was close behind. They stopped in front of the bed"you can't scare me like that, I'm only fifteen."

I gave him a small smile"well you have Joe to fuck you whenever you want so." Joe blushed. Joe was Sam's boyfriend, he was a year older than Sam and they were the cutest thing. Our parents basically disowned him when they found out Sam was gay, but it didn't really make a difference considering they were never around in the first place. Sam lives with me and he's a really great kid, him and Stefan are close, just like how we used to be.

He rolled his eyes"good to know you're okay, sis."

They kept me company while the nurses and doctor checked on me, it was getting annoying but I got over it considering my condition. When Stefan woke up, he did not want to leave me. He was playing with my hair and talking to me, I was so lost in his words that I didn't even hear the door open.

"Sarah?" I heard. I looked over Stefan and saw Liam in a wheelchair with Zayn pushing him and all the guys behind them. Zayn wheeled Liam closer to me"I'm so glad you're okay, Sarah."

I lifted a hand and motioned for him to come closer with a finger, I placed the hand on his cheek and stroked it. I smiled at him and lifted my head up, I moved closer to him and pressed my lips softly on his. He was shocked at first, but smiled into the sweet kiss.
