You Were My Spring

Early came the autumn rain
the year my friend passed away
Early came the winter snow
the year another died
And yet my relief came slow
and my springtime arrived so late

The world was forever crashing
into a universal chaos of complexity
and all I longed for then
was a simple break from tragedy

Just in time your eyes arrived
staring compassionately into mine
You let me lay there near your pain
and I held you back from your edge
You were also the balm of my shame
and listened to every word I said

You had a power and a need
and with you I was also strong
You were my Spring: Now I see
and helped my Summer come along
