Plaster Ears

Kick back the tide and the undertow
Follow our hearts wherever they go
Pick up these pieces of broken shells
Do not surrender yet to heaven or hell

Sandstone heart
and plexiglass eyes
Souls seem to depart
when they die

Yet I will drink from the silver moon
and I will think until I can't anymore
The sunshine stings come high noon
and burns us here on this ocean shore

Barbwire hands
and iron back
sinking in the sand
of all I lack

Concrete feet
and plaster ears
The waves only repeat
what we need to hear
