Chapter: 4

Ezio's POV:

I couldn't believe this. This woman actually ran away from me. What the hell was the point that? I didn't even know and stifled a frustrated sigh that wanted to slip past my lips, but I waited patiently. Theodora was bandaging up the woman's hands. I believe her name was Serena. She was a beautiful woman. I could see how people were admiring her. She had the ethereal beauty to her and it made me curious about her as well. She was someone that piques my interest. Once Theodora was patch up with her hands, I began to ask the questions that had been bouncing around in my head, "Why did you run away like that?"

"Ezio..." Theodora chided me softly.

The woman looks at me with a calm expression and I could see that she had a guarded look in her eyes as well. "I don't know who you are. We dance one time and then I save your butt."

"Yes, but why? Why did you help me? You knew those guards were after me." I asked her as I was completely puzzled by her answers. Not entirely sure what to make out of this at all.

She took a deep breath before answering me, "Because I am also on the run..."

My eyes widen up to hear that from a lady such as her and my eyes went over to Theodora. She was gazing at the woman with a deep sad expression. Her eyes met mine before speaking, "Ezio, Serena is not a normal woman. Her mother was my best friend and when Serena came to me first. I knew who she was. She was a spitting image of her mother, but she is on the down low for right now."

Theodora had sat her down in a seat as we were in a private room as we were shielded by a single current. I didn't believe this at all, but she wasn't too keen to speak about her past. Neither would I if I were in her position. Theodora looks over at me while raising an eyebrow and I realized that both of them were waiting for me to say something, but what could I possibly say to that? I didn't know. I didn't know what I should say to them. The woman locks her gaze with mine and I could see that there was a deep sadness there. Anguish was there, lurking in her gaze as well. Her dark brown eyes told me that she had seen the horrors of her enemies. Whoever that might be.

I had to know and so, therefore, I asked the question, "Who are you running away from?"

She looks over to Theodora before looking to the curtain as fear was evident in her eyes, but she shook her head. "I rather not speak of it. Not now."

Theodora peered out from behind the current and I did too, but it was busy with many men seeing the women and taking their time to sip drinks with them. She closes the current while speaking, "Ask another question that isn't too personal, Ezio." She encourages me before taking a seat on the sofa.

I look back over to the beautiful young woman who had captured my attention, "How long?"

She knew my question was vague and there was gratefulness in her eyes as she answers me, "For five years now..."

Her dark eyes went over to Theodora who was nodding her head in confirmation to knowing how long she had been here in Venice on the run. I asked, "No, run-in's?"

She shook her head, "No."

Theodora spoke, "I have made sure she was invisible to most of these males and the Borgia men that roam the city streets as well."

I nodded my head while looking over to the woman who was not looking at any one of anymore. She was looking rather distant. Completely sad and angry at what had happened, but most of all. She looks defeated. This woman had known fear and was living with the thought of thinking she was going to expose any day now. "How did you keep your profile so low?"
