Chapter: 5
Serena's POV:
Days were passing more easily and I had gotten no letters or even the slightest notes from Ezio Auditore. I don't know whether to be grateful or concerned. He still confused me. Not understanding that I want to lay low and not have my cover blown. Theodora should have explained that to him with a little more description than she did last night, but he did have me worrying about him. I bit down my bottom lip as I was carrying a basket on my arm as I was weaving through the crowd as I was doing my regular shopping. I was running low on supplies and needed to stock a few supplies.
Marsilia had to do something with her brothers or someone today and that was why I was all alone in the market area. It was okay with me. I didn't mind at all. It was nice to have a day to myself without having to think about anything or listen to Marsilia's stories about how wonderful her masquerade dance was. Even now she had fallen in love with the man that was probably now courting her. All I know is that man had better treat her well because I will not take any crap from him. She is my best friend and I will be damn if he looks like he wanted to hurt her in any way.
A soft sigh escapes from my lips as I pick up some apples and pay the merchant who is selling the fruits. My eyes scanned my surroundings and I can't believe that I have been here for five years already. Time had flown by when I was keeping myself busy as much as I could. Now, I have grown up into a beautiful woman. I was hoping that someday my mother would approve of me. The day that we finally reunite with each other. Someday, we shall. A sad dark pit formed in the pits of my stomach and made me slow in my walking. My heart sank in my chest.
My mother has been gone without a trace and I don't if she was dead or alive. I have not seen her or my brother either. It would seem that I was the only surviving member of my family. There was no one there at all to help me or even be there for me. They could have died as well which made me think that I was truly alone in this world. My eyes caught something moving along the alleyway and it made me curious. It brought me out of my terrible thoughts, I decided to follow and peer into the alleyway to see what was happening. I blinked a couple of times as I could have sworn that somebody had run into the alleyway. Maybe, the sun is starting to get to me and I need a place to sit down and rest.
So, that's what I need. I found an unoccupied bench and sat down with a loud sigh of relief. I must be hallucinating or something. That was impossible. Maybe, I just didn't go in enough to see if the guy was in there or not. Then I would most likely get my head cut off for not keeping my nose out of whoever's business that was. Things were confusing enough as it is.
I wasn't expecting someone to hang me a red rose, but I looked at the hand. The familiar glove that was there before looked up into dark brown eyes that were smiling down at me. A smirk on his lips as he handed me the red rose. Gently, I took it from him and sniffed its fragrance. It was a beautiful scent. "Thank you, Ezio." A blush crept up my cheeks as I was smiling sheepishly. Ezio gave me a dramatic bow which made me laugh a little.
"There is that smile. I was beginning to wonder if you would ever smile when I was watching you." He gave me a playful wink while I rolled my eyes at the man before me.
"Why are you here?" I asked him with a wary expression to him.
"I was on my way to do something for a good friend of mine and then I saw you looking all sad. It's not a good thing when a lady such as yourself is sad." He gave me a gentle smile while asking softly, "Is there something that you want to get off of that pretty chest of yours?"
I gasped softly while covering my chest even though my cheeks burn from his charming ways of getting my attention from him, but I shook my head, "No, I am quite all right. Why don't you go and do the things that you need to do."
