I woke up with a start my eyes wide, making my blankets fly off the bed. Fitz was looking at me worriedly. "What are you doing here?" I asked in surprise.
"It's dawn. We were waiting by Calla's tree, but you didn't come." He told me. I gasped surprised as I clapped my hands, making the shades open. Sure enough the sun started to shine.
"I'm sorry, I guess the pearls made me sleep deeper than normal." I said. He smiled at me. "That's ok. Come when you're ready, we want to know everything."
"Alright. See you in a bit." I replied as he walked out of the room. I leaped out of bed and quickly put on a red tunic with black leggings. I swung a black cape across my shoulders and clasped it with my Ruewen crest. I looked in the mirror at my wild hair. I started to carelessly run my hands through it, when Vertina appeared in the corner. "AH! WHAT DID YOU DO WITH YOUR HAIR?!" She squealed.
"I slept..."
"Grab a brush! And Some bobby pins... and some hair elixirs..." She had listed more but by then my brain had melted. I stepped out of range of the mirror, making Vertina vanish. I sighed with relief. But self consciously, I brushed my hair quickly. I stumbled down the steps while putting my boots on. I opened the door to outside and dashed over to Calla's tree.
"Poor Calla." I thought sadly, remembering the sacrifice. But I was glad that she chose her form. I arrived at the tree to see my friends waiting patiently for me. "What did you find?" Dex asked leaping up first.
"I found an implanted memory." That being said, everyone started to cheer happily. "It was implanted by the black swan, with the address of: '376 Baker's St. Manhattan New York.'"
Tam shook his bangs out of his face.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked.
"I think it's the passcode, and in Mr. Forkle's voice. Keefe, can you try mimicking it?" I asked. Keefe nodded as I gave him the cache. He mimicked Mr. Forkle's voice precisely, with the address. He finished reciting it, then the Cache made a popping sound. It opened, like how books open. Inside on the sides were seven small marbles, with numbers from one to seven on them. The first memory started, and it was about Sophie. Everyone watched as Mr. Forkle planted an embryo disguised as a vaccine secretly into a woman. She had long, wavy, blond hair and stormy grey eyes. And with a start, I realized, that the woman had similar features as I do. Same color hair, same face shape. And immediately I knew that that woman was my biological mother.
I stumbled backwards, the cache falling from my hands, landing in the grass with a soft thud. My vision blurred, and my face beaded with sweat. I just saw my biological mother. Fitz caught me from collapsing on the ground. "Was that your biological mother?" I barely managed a nod.
"Hey Foster, you need to see the next memory." Keefe told me. I stumbled over to him, with Fitz by my side. The memory shifted to Mr. Forkle's perspective of greeting the happy couple. They were sitting side by side, in a waiting room. The woman's face was happy and excited. The man next to her had wavy raven colored hair and sea green eyes, I could barely see small smile lines at the edges of his mouth. I realized that he was probably my biological father. This looked like a few months after the embryo was implanted, and it was a regular check-up. From Mr. Forkle's eyes, he was watching them, seeing the way their personalities were. The man was witty, sarcastic, loyal, kind and brave. I realized My personality was loyal, kind, and brave, like him. Although I don't really feel brave. The woman was smart and intelligent, like I am, and had a very serious side to her, which I can also be like. I stared at my parents faces in the memory, them laughing together as my Father gave my Mother a light kiss. The memory shifted once more, to when Mom was giving birth. I recoiled for a moment realizing that I was watching well- my birth. Thankfully, we didn't have to hear or see the woman giving birth. The memory shifted to right as I was born, for when Mr. Forkle took me away as the woman passed out. The memory went to an entirely different day, when Mr. Forkle found my human parents. He implanted fake memories of my human mom giving birth to me, and gave me away to them.
"Wow." Biana whispered once all the memories ended. "Wow is right." Linh murmured. I sat down under Calla's tree, my head becoming dizzy. I just saw my biological parents- well, in a memory. "What now?" Fitz asked. "I-I-I want to find them." I replied.
